Decimal 45 (hex 2D) is the EBCDIC ENQ code (Dave’s pretty up on old-school tech). “Enquiries desk” is a British expression, a sort of combination reception and information booth. (Or I could be reading way too much into a simple visual gag.)
Helen’s a geneticist, while Dave’s an engineer; odds are Dave built the robots, so they see him as “the boss.” odds are any bio-engineered minions on the island would likely see Helen as the boss.
Definitely Elephant Man.
Also, having Phil on the baseball team would be a NIGHTMARE for the opposing pitcher trying to hit his strike zone – the MLB actually banned people under X height after one team hired a dwarf who was only 3’7″ – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Gaedel
What a gem. I hope we’ll get to see this guy again some time.
So Phil’s getting attached to Dave, huh?
why does the sign say – in ASCII? Is that supposed to mean something?
Way late to this party, but:

Treating the sign as a binary number: 00101101 == 45 decimal == ASCII ‘-‘ (a hyphen).
Dave would TOTALLY have his robot secretary introduce itself as “Human-Cyborg Relations”. No matter how mad you go, the geek never goes away.
How come Helen isn’t the boss?
She bosses life, he bosses machines?

She still is in charge of Narbonics Labs, I think, but the robotics are Dave’s domain.
Isn’t that an “Elephant Man” reference?
I was thinking more of a “Planet of the Apes” quote, but you might be correct.
Definitely Elephant Man.
