It’s pretty rare to find a piece of fiction without the occasional highly-contrived sentence, and Garrity and Channing are pretty consistently ahead on that front. Chalk it up to unreliable narrator if you want.
Thinking more about it, I don’t know if that could be considered attempted murder. HT threatened Artie a lot, and he tackled him at least once, but he never actually did commit an act that, if successful, would have resulted in Artie’s death. The most they would have him on outside of the terrorism charges would be assault and maybe kidnapping.
Of course, kidnapping with intent to commit murder, which that certainly is, is a first degree felony and carries the same penalty as attempted murder, which is somewhere between 3-5 and 11-17 years.
