Right, the chocolate’s probably out. Canine and all that. Then again, she mentioned choco-tinis much earlier in the comic, so maybe not?

I’m not sure, but I believe there are chocolate-flavored dog treats that don’t contain theobromide, so they’re safe for pets. Then again, depending on how much genetic modification Sweetheart had, she may be able to safely eat chocolate…

Hmm, that’s a possibility too. Toxin resistance and all that.

I’m going for the resistance angle. I forget whether it’s been mentioned at this point in the storyline because I started my re-read in the middle of Tin Soldiers but Sweethart is quoted as having a liver so amped up that she has to down a bathtub sized coktail to get drunk for more than a few seconds. Though how that squares with her getting drunk on a bottle of Kirschwasser when most store bought varieties top out around 90-100 proof even if traditionally it can be had up almost 120 I don’t know…

I believe Captain Bram gave her a super liver in addition to increasing her intelligence.

Dogs can eat a fair amount of chocolate just fine. Its not that toxic to them, they have to eat a ton.

Depends on the chocolate and the size of the dog. As a general rule, the darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is. Two or three pieces out of your average box of Valentine’s chocolate for a dog like Sweetheart could be a real problem. White chocolate, on the other hand, is almost completely harmless.

Sweetheart was also genetically modified for increased resistance to metabolic poisons, e.g. she can’t stay drunk very long before her body just washes the alcohol out, so is probably much more resistant to theobromine than a normal dog anyway.
