I believe this falls under the trope “Arbitrary Skepticism”.

Why? Are zombies closely related to talking dogs in Voodoo? Because that’s the only way I can see it applying.

The thing to remember about Arbitrary Skepticism is that it isn’t really arbitrary. After all, just because you happen to be a vampire or zombies, doesn’t mean that unicorns have to exist in the same setting.

Whatever culture you’re a part of defines your view of normalcy.

Actually, there are multiple levels of weird. In descending order:
    1) Normal everyday weird
    2) Congress weird
    3) Military weird
    4) New Orleans weird
    5) New York weird
    6) Southern California weird (“Where starting a new cult in your honor is merely their way of saying hello”)
    7) San Fransisco weird
    8) Seattle weird (similar to #7, but in a different way. SF has Emperor Norton, we have Sasquatch and UFOs over Mt. Rainier.)
    9) Mad Scientist weird, or H.P. Lovecraft mind-blasting strangeness

      It’s “San Francisco”, thanks.

      10) The weirdness of something missing when it’s supposed to be there.
