We all need the same vacation!
We’re not leaving on our own!
You’re being honest, just like we are …
Seems our cover has been blown!
Hey, leader, seems you’ve always known!
In the hall, I’m gonna … beat my head on the wall!
Darn it all, I’m gonna … beat my head on the wall!
Well, this IS a government institution. Transparency has always been defined by the government as viewed through a one-way mirror. Every time a politician uses this word, I get giggle fits. Gavotte is only being true to the ideal.
I was under the impression that they aren’t just coworkers, they’re also friends. Is it really so strange for them to want to go on vacation together?
Of course, suddenly asking for vacation time effective almost immediately… now that’s suspicious.
That’s “Another Brick in the Wall”, and all three variations on the song that appear on the album “The Wall” scan differently. (This appears to match “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” best.)
Touché
YES, I have lots of questions!
Aaaand there’s the smug. Sweetheart totally called it.
And they haven’t even left yet.

How can you have any pudding if your plot’s not discrete?
Is this the part where Sweetheart “Run[s] Like Hell”?
Of course, her staff already resolved to be just as honest with her as she is with them….

No, not too unusual. So Gavotte probably already knows all about their actual plans and is just being catty. Bee-y. Whatever.

Also: allowing everyone in a department to go on vacation simultaneously.
That would not have been permitted anywhere that I have worked.
I think that Gavotte is, in effect, sending them on this mission — and getting them to burn up their vacation days as well.
Are they sure there wasn’t a “bee on the wall” listening at the cafe?
Well, technically not everyone in it, as Moustachio is staying. Not that he has any choice in the matter.
With this group and that administrator, a bee on the wall is almost a given in any situation.
I’m just wondering if that second panel was a hint that she already knew, or an invitation to come clean about it. Or both.
As Pratchett once said, when something is transparent it either means that you can see right through it, or that you can’t see it at all.
“…But although you cannot see it,
It can see you very well.”
–Jack Prelutsky
There are definitely a lot of hazards to transparency, and Gavotte “clearly” knows all of them.
This reminded me of a trailer for Borderlands 2 at around the 1:30 mark:

“Now, full disclosure: I will absolutely stab you in the back somewhere down the road.”
Nothing quite like a bit of honesty to inspire teamwork, right?
