Admittedly, I have no idea what the protocol is for same-sex dates, but they’re both girls, so why should one have to bring flowers and not the other one?
It depends primarily on personal preference — in this case, I’d hypothesize it’s “Sweetheart’s secret fantasy about exactly this” doing the heavy lifting on establishing protocol.
Well, to be fair, Unity DID ask Sweetheart out; and that makes her the wooer, not the wooed. It’s an old-fashioned idea but just the sort of thing Sweetheart’d consider appropriate.
Yeah, but it’s not like you give someone just the reproductive parts of the flowers.
And what Unity gets from Remy is better than flowers – to her, at least. Getting a spare arm is almost like getting a box of chocolates would be for anyone else.
(And to be fair, Sweetheart ate Captain Bram, so it’s reasonable for Unity to think –such as she does – that Sweetheart would appreciate a gift of body parts.)

More likely Sweetheart’s constructed a specific S.O.P. for how a date is supposed to go, and is trying to force them into the preplanned paradigm.
Less “this is what I secretly want”, more “this is how the script reads for this scenario”.
