The voice and the simulation are pushing her buttons so hard it’s a wonder they don’t break. (Maybe that’s what they’re trying to do!) So, little wonder she’s not thinking clearly.
It’s going to be so weird at the end of the arc, if she gets the “it was all just a simulation” reveal. Will she shrug off any self-awareness she might get from this?
My plan was first to get in the Institute …
I made a date for dinner with a doctor who was cute!
Had to ask, I wasn’t sure
If they had the Madness Cure,
But he said no! He said for sure it wasn’t so!
What’s going on? Well, no one knows!
It’s where apostrophes go missing and where doors refuse to close!
See the staff now, hear them shout
That a fire is breaking out!
It’s all my fault! Oh, woe is me and oy gevalt!
But I’ll fight on! I will persist!
I’ll have so many darn accomplishments you’ll have to make a list!
I’ll igmore the voices that
Say I’ve still got on the hat …
What does that mean? Is that a code for words obscene?
No matter now, for here am I!
I have returned, my first accomplishment is that I didn’t die!
I confess, though, number two
On my list of things to do
Is quite obscure!
How to endure?
Not sure!
Warning. Lethal levels of carbon monoxide detected. Lethal levels of sulphur detected. Immediate evacuation is mandatory. Atmosphere is incompatible with life. If you can hear this, you are already dead. Why do I bother.
Does she think she’s (a) the drone, and (b) the drone is alive? The drone has already survived a massive tire fire and CO2 bomb explosion back at Skin Horse HQ. Delusions on delusions…more Sweetheart-specific gaslighting…
How dense can she be? I mean, even if the phrase “you’re still wearing the hat” wasn’t obvious enough, Nick always knows what he means to say when the swear filter interrupts, and that dialogue is decidedly un-Nick-like.
I’m pretty sure the whole sequence that convinced her she’s caused a fire and gotten scolded by her creator who she idealizes has put her in an emotional state where she’s not really fit to be making analytical decisions. And accidentally causing a fire because she didn’t report a fire door is the kind of thing that does tie into Sweetie’s world view, so she’s unlikely to question that (though she did question her creator still being alive).
If you see people mentioning Inception that way, mentally tack on “just like in” before the “Inception” part. I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re getting at as opposed to “Inception meant the dreams within dreams thing in the movie 🙂
What is the point of the manipulation, I wonder? I’d guess to try to turn her “mad” in the official sense, but isn’t she already pretty mad to begin with? Or would she just be classed as neurotic, because she’s not quite fully blown “mad” like Dave went in Narbonic?
I feel the urge to pontificate about the plot again…I suppose Sweetheart could be ripped out of this manipulation by someone ripping the [real] helmet off her [real] head. Nick can’t do it; far as I know, he doesn’t have any hands that could reach it. I suppose he could summon Tip or Unity or Miss Jones or any of the people at their slumber party. But then Goldbug (or whoever) has enough of a grip on him to cut him off and put him back in the “tiny tiny brain in the jar” situation, where he can swear to his heart’s content but won’t be able to contact anybody at all—and he might wind up there if he so much as shouts a warning.
I suppose there could also be some danger in ripping the [real] helmet off Sweetheart’s [real] head—abrupt disconnect might burn her brain out or revert her all the way to ordinary dog or something.
I don’t know if Goldbug can hack Nick any time he wants to, previously he only did it when Nick tried to jack into the drone. It looks like the connection to the drone has been hijacked and he’s using it as his attack vector. I hope this doesn’t mean they can’t get it back, it would be a shame for this affair to cost Bubbles her body.
Wait… if the moping with the vodka was part of a simulation to torment Sweetheart, was the moping with the ice cream at the beginning also part of it? How deep does the rabbit hole go?
Elsewhere, Jonah was randomly hit by a bus and now all of this never happened
Just twigged onto something. In the Narbonic/SHverse, it’s not just Normals who have Reality Blindness. Everyone does, to some extent or another. Even if you can accept the robot zombie ninjas who are also shapeshifting iguanas, everyone has something they edit out. Tip, Unity, Sweetheart, everyone has swaths of stuff happening around them that they just don’t process. Tip’s inability to work with emotions of people he isn’t actively trying to pay attention to the emotions of at that moment has been a prime mover. Unity exists in her own separate reality. And we’re seeing a prime example for Sweetheart right now. What does this all mean?
No idea.
Sweetheart is slooww today.
Who does Sweetheart even think that is? Like it’s obvious that’s not Nick…
I suspect she’s just so focused on succeeding in her mission she’s not thinking clearly.

Is that any different from any other time in her career?

I could really dance to this one…
… here is incompatible with life, if you’re hearing this you are already dead why do we even bother…
“atmosphere is” &c.

*Sings “Still Alive” from Portal 2.*
Still Alive was Portal 1 wasn’t it?
Yes it was, it’s also a god damned earworm that I couldn’t get out of my head for a week.
“Atmosphere is incompatible with life. If you can hear this, you are already dead. Why do I bother?”
Hello Marvin 🙂
Did someone slip Sweetie some alcohol before she started the sim? She’s being ridiculously slow at the moment.
How dense can she be? I mean, even if the phrase “you’re still wearing the hat” wasn’t obvious enough, Nick always knows what he means to say when the swear filter interrupts, and that dialogue is decidedly un-Nick-like.

It’s a dream within a dream within a dream!
INCEPTION!
“That many virtual realities within a virtual realities is to unstable.”
“Not if you add a sentient dog with an inferiority complex.”
It really bothers me when people use “inception” to reference recursion. I mean, come on, people! It didn’t even have that meaning within the movie!
If you see people mentioning Inception that way, mentally tack on “just like in” before the “Inception” part. I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re getting at as opposed to “Inception meant the dreams within dreams thing in the movie 🙂

I think they’re just trying to drive her insane with her failures either to recruit her (look what you CAN accomplish with US…) or for the lulz.

M. Night Shyamalan Plot twist! She’s been an ordinary dog THE WHOLE TIME!

Accomplishment #1: Still be alive!
This actually is a good first step. The gateway to everything else you need to do.
