So. From know-nothing kid to know-nothing teen? o_O
I suppose that’s progress of a sort @_@
Mind you this does seem to blow my theory of Beatrix = Beatrix from Dante’s Inferno = this Beatrice being to Ginny as Aeneas was to Dante completely out of the water. @_@
Aeneas? “Completely out of the water”? Not sure I understand. Are you comparing the work with the author? Or was that a simple slip of the tongue? Was Virgil “out of the water”? Is Ginny transformed to be Peter Rabbit as Dante was transformed into Aeneas??? I’m confused.
That seems too obvious. VR is old hat at this point. On the other hand, it might explain the walnuts-bit if her brain’s been pickled. But I’m probably reaching.
I had the exact same thought. Nearing the end game, having Virginia dropped on a secluded island or similar, eyes hidden vs see-through glasses, …
The comparisons to Narbonic’s final stretch are easy to make.
I’m was working under the assumption it’s an homage to Calvin and Hobbes.
It bears a striking resemblance to Calvin’s “captain helmet” from the Yukon Ho! storyline, replete with moveable visor, chin strap, and decorative ball-topped antenna on the back. The only real differences are the coloration and the shape of the visor and how it attaches.
Personally, I think it’s just supposed to be whimsical character design. But if we’re going to attach importance to it, then it suggests a character like Calvin with a vivid imagination, and that this might not be VR so much as… well… imagination.
Well, Calvin’s helmet didn’t have the chin strap, but still, I can’t believe I didn’t see the similarities nonetheless. Calvin & Hobbes is probably the one comic that I’ve read more times than this one (well… this one and Narbonic together, but still…). I bought each of the books as soon as they came out.
To say that I was distraught when Watterson ended the comic in 1995 would be a gross understatement.
Pity she’s not *that* Mel…
If she were, she would probably know a lot more about getting out. Or at the very least, she wouldn’t be playing Skee-Ball.
She would also instinctively want to kill Virginia, but she wouldn’t know why…. or care.
Mell instinctively wants to kill everyone, mind you.
Unless she went blonde.
Yeah, Melanie =/= Melody.
Neither Heaven nor Hell could contain Mell. What chance would a mere VR have?

No, this is Beatrix. The one who wrote Peter Rabbit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrix_Potter.
Ah. Well, she might make a fine guide through this “afterlife” for Ginny as well. ^_~

Yeah, you got me dead to rights. I typed Aeneas when I meant Virgil. 😛
I was kind of hoping for this Beatrix.

Wouldn’t that be kinda rough on Ginny though? o_O
Awww… cute little non-Whimsy pink pigs with smiley-face snouts!
So the real punishment is that you play Skee-Ball all day, and yet you can never win one of the stuffed pigs?
Are they on Fenwick Island, DE? (or a simulation?)
Oh dear. They’re all brains in jars, aren’t they? Skee Ball on the beach is too close to paradise for reality.
It would allow her to be with Nick in a way that is probably as close to normal as they could possibly be.
Just two brains in jars…

Glad someone else is thinking it.
We can’t see Beatrix’s eyes, Melanie’s either. That worrying anyone else?
Well, it wasn’t worrying to me a second ago…
Same here. Thanks for bringing it up. (groan)

Beatrix also seems to have an antenna of some kind coming out of the back of her head.
The whole thing on her head looks like a wireless VR rig. Which makes me wonder how and what she sees when she looks at Virginia.

When my limbic’s pulsing
I know that you’re not far
Because my cortex tells me
We’re two brains in a jar
Surely it would flow better to say two brains in -one- jar?
Maybe Dr. Lee’s ultimate punishment *is* her unfulfilled need to get out.
I get it – custom, personalized hells. “It’s Whimsey magic!”
Could the little kid be Beatrix Kiddo?
You know, because her name is Beatrix…and she’s a kiddo…..okay, I’ve done enough here.
Best be careful, Skee Ball is what almost killed God (who was a woman) in Dogma
