Tip’s potential play most likely to be successful would probably have been to distract Englebright by asserting that he is stunningly attractive while drawing and firing Alice. She might have been distracted just long enough for Tip to get a shot off before she drew the bigger gun.
It is possible to over-apply the Oz theme, but Engelbright as one of the witches does make sense.
Dr Lee is the Wiched Witch of the East, because she created Nick. I suspect Tigerlily is one of the Good Witches, even though she’s Evil, because, hey, Narbonverse. The problem with Engelbright as Witch of the West is that she’s working with Ira, who is the Wizard, and in the book the two were enemies. But, again, you can over-apply the metaphor.
I wondered if her name had some significance so I googled it. The only vaguely relevant thing I could find was Lake Englebright -> water -> Wicked Witch of the West, which seems a bit weak. Name aside, I’m almost certain she isn’t Button-Bright from The Road to Oz, though.
“Space” – The Lovetron saucer
“Bat” – Ruby from St. Charlie
“Angel” – Engelbright (bright angel)
“Dragon” – There were a couple of “Chekhov’s Dragons” earlier.
At this point, I’m wondering if maybe Oz parallels aren’t where we should be looking. Maybe Engelbright is a sadistic Metatron to Ari Green’s grumpy, puristic Yahweh.
First the Annex One Skin-Horse group goes rogue, and now Ira’s faction goes rogue, too. (Anybody besides him and Dr. Englebright in it? The only ones I can think of are the inspection team that had all the Skin-Horse doppelgangers in it.)
The only time Nick (as a helicopter) has been stolen (kidnapped) at all was when Ira used the verbal overrides to take him, and then removed Nick’s brain from his helicopter body.
Tip Wilkin’s the boss and in charge. But Engelbright opts for discharge. But the copter, she’ll take it to make a fast break it while her gun is diplomacy-large.
yeah, I guess Tip never did see through Dr. Engelbright
Good thing he’s such a good listener
such a goood listener
With the helicopter blades whipping up a good deal of breeze, maybe Engelbright will see through and get a good look at Tip’s gun.
Tip used to be Army, but I don’t think he’s currently commando.
It would have to be Engelbright!
Rappelling out of a helicopter must be part of Mr. Green’s workout routine?
Loyal henchmen are so hard to find.
I was wondering how being the new boss would affect this, these writers are clever.
I hate to say anything that might give people even a speck of happiness that rightfully should be mine, but this strip is a beaut.
Oh, I think todays strip will end up being one of my favorites from the series.
Should Tip have gone with “I’m stunningly attractive”?
I suspect Englebright would have riposted with “Not to me!”
Or maybe “Not enough to make me change sides!”
(Has Englebright ever shown any interest in Tip? I seem to recall not, but maybe I’m wrong)

I don’t think so. As I recall their most significant encounter ended with her laughing at him and explaining she’d just learned that in mockery class.
So, given the Oz themes, we’re the drones the Flying Monkeys? Is there a Golden Cap somewhere? And who is Engelbright, one of the witches?
Perhaps Englebright is the Wicked Witch of the West.
I think that is the thought control crown (could be wrong)

I’m taking “engelbright” as “bright angel,” which might be a reference to Lucifer, at least in this context.
I’m probably reading too much into this but:
“Space” – The Lovetron saucer
“Bat” – Ruby from St. Charlie
“Angel” – Engelbright (bright angel)
“Dragon” – There were a couple of “Chekhov’s Dragons” earlier.
Over to you Kay?
*Very* good. *Very* *very* good. Maybe it means a new storyline name on Monday?
Maybe the dragons are about to come into play
At this point, Dr. Englebright is the chief of all the flying monkeys.
@Paul,
Perhaps Dr. Engelbright = Glinda the Good? The Wizard himself was supposed to be a force for Good after all. 🙂
At this point, I’m wondering if maybe Oz parallels aren’t where we should be looking. Maybe Engelbright is a sadistic Metatron to Ari Green’s grumpy, puristic Yahweh.
Or…Sometimes a …fill in the blank… is just a …fill in the blank?
I’m sure having quite unexpectedly will never ever in a million years come back to bite Engelbright…
It certainly will if she ever has to ask for a job reference!
First the Annex One Skin-Horse group goes rogue, and now Ira’s faction goes rogue, too. (Anybody besides him and Dr. Englebright in it? The only ones I can think of are the inspection team that had all the Skin-Horse doppelgangers in it.)
It would be interesting for the doppel team to make a comeback.
Honestly? Sometimes “diplomacy” is just the art of having a bigger gun.
A fully-armed Nick would win right now, but he’s busy elsewhere at the mo.
Ultima Ratio Regum
I’m glad you remembered the katin, because I was just going to use the English translation.
Latin
At this point I am shipping Dr. Engelbright and Ira. 🙂
Ah, a good old fashioned game of paper-scissors-rock-big piece of paper-giant scissors-really big rock.
“The padre hasn’t gone!”
A tad hypocritical to be demanding the return of a stolen helicopter, Tip.
Tips stolen helicopter, (Nick) nicked himself.
I see Ira has “loyalists” as well as “minions.”
I see Tip has studied Sleuth Diplomacy.
“That’s not a gun. THAT’S a gun!” —Crocodile Engelbright.
Will Tip leap for the chopper like he did the platform? It might be less risky than sticking around…
