I am still surprised that Species isn’t acknowledged as one of the great drop-offs in quality of series in cinema. While the original is hardly Casablanca, it is a decent bit of story-telling and characterisation. The sequels (2 and 3 – I’ve never seen 4) are complete garbage.
Much like The Howling. Betcha didn’t know there were sequels? Keep thinking that for your own sanity. It went from “directed by Joe Dante” to “made with pride by #1 Romanian local talent!”
Like the original Superman films with Christopher Reeves. One was Ok. Two was actually better. Three (with Richard Pryor) went off the rails, and Four [shudder]… Oh Science! That was bad.
Or put on a Whimsy movie while you’re banging. There’s a certain perverseness (perversosity?) about watching something clean and wholesome while you’re doing something that isn’t.
Given a choice between talking to Baron Mistycorn, and devoting my full attention to banging Virginia Lee, I know which robot unicorn wouldn’t be getting a call from me.
awgie….are we even considering the same thing? I always have had reverse priorities on banging and perverse entertainment. To wit: to bang is to engage in
an ancient, marvelous natural exploration, yada yada; While animated movies
are just that, 2-dimensional lying made by the best hypnotists in the world, to enthrall and deceive, ultimately to sell products.
I think I choose BANGING over typical warfare. When I gotta watch a movie at the same time, I’m too old.
Don’t know. I only ever saw it a couple times on SciFi (as the channel was known back then), because I didn’t have cable, so I don’t remember ever seeing an ad for it. But it made such an impression, I now have the entire series on DVD.
The site started playing obnoxious music and blocking the info with an ad before I could find out what kind of wine. Red, white, or rose? What goes with Cheeze-Its?
Since you insist, let’s see how many loose plot threads we can identify:
a) Unity needs a new body before she gets bored.
b) Tip needs to subvert Anasigma’s HQ staff before being “rescued”.
c) Mr. Green needs to unveil his Ultimate Weapon, leading to
d) Sweetheart’s VR premonition of TEOTWAWKI being realized, unless
e) Tigerlilly can siphon the energy off to Lovetron, giving
f) Virginia a chance to schlorp out Mr. Green’s brain for extirpation hell then
g) Jonah Yu reveals he’s been manipulating reality to ensure happiness with Nera
h) Whose Mom turns out to be the ultimate boss above Anasigma!
Just their end. There’s still plenty to be wrapped up. And besides, as they say, “the course of true love never did run smooth.” So there’s plenty of room for quarrels between them.
I find it fascinating that Nick – who *despises* Tip – is concerned for him even while holding his heart’s desire, while Virginia – who has shared Major Mojo Moments with Tip – is snuggling & munching rather selfishly…
Well, she did acknowledge that they owe Tip the credit for the very opportunity to be sharing this moment. Even though it isn’t true. Tip stayed behind to save the A-Sig employees from being killed, not to allow Nick and the others to escape. He could have chosen to escape with them, and Nick and Virginia would have still ended up here.
Mmm, cheese balls. I once wondered aloud how they make those things, and my housemate explained that they take balls of air and spray them with cheese powder. There’s no arguing with logic like that.
Wait, didn’t Tip stay behind to save all of them, i.e. their dopplegangers? Everything the Annex One team has here and now, they’d still have had if Tip had exfiltrated with them.
Especially since “freedom from guilt or remorse” is a thing that they seem to unconditionally have. At least as long as the cheese balls hold out.
Actually, he stayed behind to save everyone at the base. True, that would technically include the doppelgangers, but since Tip said to James, “if I stay, will you spare these people?”, it’s safe to assume that he wasn’t too worried about the doppelgangers being killed.
But yes, what Nick and Virginia have here and now would have happened regardless of whether Tip had stayed or escaped.
Tip would be glad they have their priorities straight!
Probably, yes.
I just realized this strip harkens back to their first date.
There’s also Runequest, GURPS, Champions and D&D! ^_^

I never watched any of the sequels. I had heard they were crap, so I didn’t bother.

Agreed. Made me appreciate the scintillating artistic merit of “Frankenstein vs the Martians”.
Since “Species” dates back to 1995, I find myself wondering if this panel was written around that time?
You could switch it up and watch Lexx instead.

The appeal is probably kind of ruined by having actually met Baron Mistycorn.
I would’a thought that, by now, Nick would be bragging *to* Baron M. about bagging Dr. Lee. What use is the Internet if you can’t brag about that?
He’s a machine (heh), who says he’s *not* talking to the Baron while his meat body does this?
Given a choice between talking to Baron Mistycorn, and devoting my full attention to banging Virginia Lee, I know which robot unicorn wouldn’t be getting a call from me.
Why brag if you can uplink?
Uh, did I just invent a new nastiness?

Gotta admit, I find dinosaur documentaries to be remarkably good backgrounds for romance.
OMG! Someone else remembers Lexx! How did that tag line in the SyFy Channel promo go? ‘Want some weird? Watch some Lexx’ – I think that was it.

I have to say that Tip would probably do the same for you. Though maybe not with cheese balls.
Wine and crackers with those cheese balls?
They now sell wine and cheez-it crackers, in the same box.

Let us pause for a moment to appreciate the advances that technology has given us. (Bows head)
This is the greatest invention in culinary history.

Red, according to archive.org.

I’m not a great cheeze-it connoisseur, so I can’t really judge the wine suggestions on that page.
10000% here for the Airwolf t-shirt.
Has anyone got any details about The Far Side returning as a web comic? There’s a web page with a Larson cartoon guy doing something “The Thing” dumb…
And a cheesy happy ending to their end of the saga. Next week—new storyline?

Such is the difference between Good and Evil.

Yup. I must concede that Dr. Lee is Mad as a headstanding hoot owl.
Just so you know, I will be using this metaphor in the future. Thank you.
