We know from Narbonic that a good chunk of his mind and physiology is human based. When they first gave him a human form he found parts of his mind functioning the way they evolution had designed them to.
I wouldn’t worry about the storm sewers being any dirtier than a Louisiana bayou. However, for all any of them (or us) knows, that coonskin-cap-looking thing is how the Cypress zombifies people.
UNITY is the black goo that she has instead of blood, remember? Everything else is is just meat puppet which can be, and often is, replaced frequently.
Her body’s brain, which as far as we know has sometimes been temporarily abandoned but never replaced, is still a clone of Mell’s, she started out with that brain, and its structure probably influenced her mental development.
In the tunnels under Colma town,
Where the water’s flowing, thick and brown,
At the tunnel’s end, what do we see?
It’s a frikkin’ zombie factory!
[CHORUS:]
Lookie, Ginny found a zombie hat!
Found a happy hairy zombie hat!
Running ’round in where the people shat!
Lookie, Ginny found a zoh-oh-ombie hat!
Let’s sit back while Doctor Wilkin tries
To converse and psychoanalyze!
What’s the mind inside these living trees?
Will its pollen trip my allergies? [repeat CHORUS]
Really disturbed by the “nar nar” sound that the Zombie Hat is making. I don’t like the idea of zombie hats. Or zombie umbrellas for that matter. (The Umbrella company had better not get any ideas.)
Interesting use of the words “our” and “us”. Artie’s assimilation into the human species may have gone further then he realized. ^_^
…I wonder exactly what Artie’s biochemical and neurological makeup *is*. Or his genetics, for that matter.

“Drunk on simian war hormones” essentially.
Those “ours” and “us’s” are intended as the group, not the species.
Yet, in many ways (ignoring the fact that Artie isn’t human, etc), it still aptly applies to the species. 😀
Ew! Don’t let that thing sit on your head, Ginny! It’s been in the sewer!
Ew! Ew!

You seem to forget… Unity made that hat.
What I’d do for a memory even close to yours!
Why do I get a picture from “Aliens” with things sprouting out of Ginny’s head?
Unity really is Virginia’s daughter, isn’t she.
That’s probably the UNITY talking from the notary public arc, she did have to be injected with UNITY after all.
By that, of course, in mean “once and future,” and that hat is from “come swing from my branches”
Unity being the daughter of Ginny and Mel…that suddenly makes her character make SO much sense…
That idea hurts my head 🙁
Why? Raised by Virginia and given a clone of Mell’s brain…makes sense to me…

Also, this means its at least a PART of the original Cyprus. I hope it doesn’t have too many invasive bio chips jammed into its root system 🙁

I think the group “Us” is less specieist (Human vs Non-Human) and more Animal Kingdom-based intelligence vs Vegetable Kingdom-based intelligence.
This was my immediate reaction.
I thought he was just talking about that group specifically, standing there in the sewers.

Better than “nom, nom”?
Ooookaaaaay . . . Ginny’s long awaited snapping point should be arriving any minute now.
Either that, or Chris Battey and irdburns are correct, and we are seeing a comedic case of “like mother, like daughter”.
D’aww! Unity learned the “hat” thing from her
mothermaker! As Qui-Gon Jinn said, “The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.”
Careful Dr. Lee, that part of Unity might not have learned to peacefully coexist with you yet.
