I just looked up Kincade, and I’m pretty sure I raised my risk of diabetes a couple percentage points in the process. What utter schlock, and not the fun kind, neither.
I remember actually watching that when I was a kid. On broadcast antenna (We only got 8 channels at that house). So that had to be pre 1985 since I moved to Yokosuka that particular summer.
I do so love this comic. Now I wonder if maybe Unity knows something we don’t, and Bob Ross actually WAS (or is still) a tree avatar. It explains so much.
On the contrary, since this is a comic about mad science, EVERYTHING is completely normal: talking dogs, brain dispensers, Victorian robots playing funky 8-tracks, sentient helicopters with extensive knowledge of Whimsy princesses, zombie emperors, …
This is interesting. I’m Scottish. The only PBS programme I’ve ever seen is Sesame Street. And yet I know exactly who Bob Ross was, and that he used to talk about making your trees look like happy little trees. And I have no idea how. Popculture osmosis, sure, but osmosis from where?
I’m sure various ITV regions used to use his site to fill gaps in the schedules in the 80s – if your childhood coincided with that, then you legally saw him during the school holidays while trying to escape ‘Crown Court’ (the TV show)
(Yes American friends, we actually had a show called ‘Crown Court’, which was _completely unembellished_ dramatisations of very staid UK court trials – for entertainment!)
Bob Ross is to landscape painting what Thomas Kincade is to quaint town painting.

I have to admit it was pretty great that one time he tutored Riley on painting in The Boondocks.
How does Unity know Bob Ross? Or is “The Joy of Painting” still running on her local PBS station?
Thought maybe she ran into him while they were all out visiting Colma, but he was interred in Gotha, Florida—so Wikipedia says.
They also met with the undead queen of Florida off panel.
Bob Ross is on Netflix.
Also still on the cable stations that run public access programming like CreateTV from time to time.
And here’s a happy little zombie…
Love that expression 🙂

“When I was a kid, we only got eight channels. And when we wanted to change them we had to get up and do it! You kids don’t know how tough we had it!”
We had just one channel! And when we wanted to switch no wait, this doesn’t work.
Back in the days when there was an actual dial to not touch.

This is a comic about mad science. The only thing you can truly rule out is that everything is completely normal.

It’s best not to ask such questions.
Here, look at this blinky thing…

Site? I mean ‘show’, of course.
Homestar Runner? I think that’s how I’ve heard of him.
pop culture? Spread through nano-bots infected with meme-mites. Shhh….
In his house at Gotha, dead Bob waits dreaming…
I want this to be true.
As someone who has recently been on a Bob Ross Blitz on You Tube, this makes me happy.
Did you know that Bob Ross took care of baby squirrels? He would even bring them on the show.
