If he weren’t such a cheap-a sleaze, the Baron would be teasing Ginny. Or is he
trying out Douglas Fairbanks’ dictum: “Treat a lady like a whore, a whore like a lady….” He’s not really doing either. He’s just herkin’ around.
Why is Dr. Lee the constant target of sexual harassment in this story, more so than any other character? First it was Nick, but then he grew up; then it was Mr. Green in his various guises, and now it’s Baron Mistycorn.
She’s the token Hot Scientist, but more specifically, she’s the Hello, Nurse! character. She’s turned the heads of just about every guy in the story. And kind of like Robert said, the harrassment gives you a good reason to despise a character and hope that they get what they deserve.
Remember how inherently indecisive Virginia was shown to be in the “Notary” arc, and how willing she was to sign up for all of Anasigma’s punishments. She’s a polite person who projects uncertainty, vulnerability, and victim-status. That makes her a jerk-magnet, especially since jerks have trouble reading social cues, and can’t tell serious flirting from disinterest.
(Now imagine what would happen to anyone who hit on the other females in this story. They’d happily say “yes”, and pounce on the guy, or would just say “nope”. Persistent hitting-on after that would probably result in the “hitter” being physically hit, teleported somewhere nasty (possibly by small robots), or chewed-up and eventually spit out. Although she likes the slurpy sounds brains make when she pulls them out, Virginia’s not physically assertive, and would probably just apologize for having to disappoint. At last resort, logic would be her weapon of choice.
I’d say your first paragraph is spot on. But to be fair to Virginia, she did repeatedly say no to Mr. Green, and finally had enough of his nonsense, and beat him over the head with his own pistol.
Well, Mr. Green and Baron Mistycorn (through hanging out with Nick) know her backstory enough to know she’s murderously morally compromised as well as having made herself sexually available to casual male acquaintances in the past.
Someone worse than Sweetheart with pickup lines?
Truthfully, I think *Ira* had better pick up lines and would probably be the better date to boot. ^O^
That said, I seriously doubt Baron expects to get anywhere with this either. If I’m correct he’s just teasing Ginny and having fun. ^_^
Relationships in their universe all seem like what ALF once said of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft: “He could have had anybody he wanted.”
I think Baron may have better lines than Sweetheart. Which is not to say that Baron has good lines, just that Sweetheart’s are that bad.
Baron, you keep making an ass of yourself, you’ll have to lose the horn and grow longer ears.
I’m sure Dr. Lee would be more than willing to stretch out his ears. She’s got tow straps and a car after all.
Her car is back on the east coast. Why bother with that? She’s got a robot building at her disposal.
Baron ain’t no Unicorn,he’s just a Horny old goat!
I suppose he never did catch up with Phoebe the Canadian Model who was into unicorns…
If you read what the Baron says as Jason Alexander/Duck Man,it shows how sleazy he is. (To me anyway.)
It occurs to me that quite a few characters in this comic have their own kinds of reality filters…
True, but then so do many people in real life.

Threaten to tell Aimee, go on Ginny, do it. See how quick the Baron there changes his tune.

Its kind of the more modern version of “Kick the Dog.” It shows that your a villain, and that whats about to happen to you is perfectly justified.

Ooooh! Good for her! I missed that one. Was it after she was injected with Unity’s zombie sludge?
It was just recently (relatively speaking) when she was escaping from Mr Green’s clutches just after he tried to have her brain schlorped.

The Baron does know that Ginny could disassemble him, right? Or is that part of the appeal?
