A few points of order 1 Mr.Zerhakker is a post op trans-helicopter.2. He is masculine identified 3until the most recent story arc he was presumed to be heterosexual
Ooookay. So, I’m going to have to say “uhm no”
as a trans person.
Nick didn’t identify as a helicopter before surgery, and as he is a MAAB person who is masculine identified, I would thank y’all for not calling him trans. Thanks. 😛
I didn’t say he was transgender, I said he was trans-helicopter. He called the whirly bird his real body remember? Is there a different term for forcibly reassigned people who are accepting of their new physicality?
I love that people are getting into a semantics/terminology argument over the application of ridiculous science fiction stuff as it relates to real-world identity politics.
considering that people use otherkin and people who claim to be trans-racial to discredit trans people, pardon me for being a bit snippy about that. S’not funny when it’s not a joke most of the time. (Yes, I got the joke 😛 )
plus, there is a huge segment of the population who things that doctors push trans people to be who we are. So the forced transition thing … yeah.
They’re gonna need a freakin’ huge chuppah at that wedding! I’d filk “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” nut I’m on vacation in Florida, and it’s too hot to rhyme.
Zerhakker, Zerhakker, found him a match!
Nice Jewish boy!
Oi, what a catch!
Cartoon talk over coffee
Then, whaddaya know?
Nick’s brain, in its jar, is aglow!
That might be due to a Sensory homunculus kind of thing, true he can’t receive touch, but his organic* brain is optimized for four limbs, two of which end in manipulators. Being a helicopter might be awesome, but the Violet drone is probably a comfortable and familiar thing to him. *Note I didn’t say human, he’s a helicopter with a originally human component. That’s basic respect
I seem to recall the last male driver of that drone trying to seduce Tip. I wonder if it is not a side effect of this particular drone model. Or it could just be that taking the shape, even if it a robot and not living, confers some of the characteristics of the shape. I’ve seen this described in shape-shifting fiction before but I am not sure it would be applicable to putting your conscience into a different mechanical shape.
Manifesta, not a bad idea (and nicely done, Prodigal), but my brain went in a different direction …
(TUNE: “Catholic Girls”, Frank Zappa)
Nice Jewish boy
Who is working for Whimsy,
Nice Jewish boy
Who’s reality-blind!
Nice Jewish boy
Gave my number to him, see?
He’s not gonna find
That’s I’m poorly designed!
Nice Jewish boy
Hasn’t got a clue …
Nice Jewish boy
Kinda geeky too …
Nice Jewish boy
And I’m also a Jew …
If he went out with me,
Would we play D&D?
Doesn’t know
That I’m just a brain …
If I show
That I live in a tank in a plane,
Would he then go
Absolutely insane?
I sure hope not, he’s a nice Jewish boy
Though it seems perverse,
Hey, I could do worse … (Yes, he could do worse … than a)
Nice Jewish boy
With his hair dark and curly,
Nice Jewish boy
With a goyishe nose,
Nice Jewish boy
And he thinks I’m so girly …
If he never knows,
We’ll just see where this goes!
Wow. It doesn’t seem like Nick is being sarcastic.
So there’s the question of whether Nick is being fluid with his(?) gender, or with his sexuality on a homo-/hetero-sexual scale. (As an aside, I’ve always wondered whether it was like that — does homo-/hetero-sexuality stay more constant over transition, or does interest in men/women?)
Either way, I also wonder if this will affect his experience in online/gaming communities, what with their (possibly only stereotypical? I don’t know those communities very well) common use of “f*g” and the like.
Fluid might be likelihood. He is a helicopter now he doesn’t actually have fun bits, And so he could theoretically do anything romance wise that doesn’t directly involve fun bits. p.s the 3 letter F word is more of a derogatory postfix on the Internet nowadays rather than having to do anything with homosexuality specifically
That’s probably the best description we can achieve.
In the beginning, Nick was a straight, cis-gendered male.
Then his brain was transplanted into a V-22 Osprey (which technically is agendered), but while regarding the helicopter as his true body (which was probably more like going with the flow, accepting it and making the most of his new form as resistance would be futile) his brain was still wired up as straight, cis-gendered male.
Now he’s piloting a gynoid drone and decided to experiment with going out with the employee to see what it was like (“for the lulz”).
So in general, Nick is a very adaptable chap who’s prepared to give (almost) anything a go – after all, it’s not as if the drone can get pregnant, is it?! 🙂
Note I said almost – sharing a bed with the resident crossdressing casanova may be an experiment too far… 🙂
One of my mom’s favorite jokes goes something like:
Joshua comes home for Thanksgiving his freshman year of college. When he gets home, his mother greets him with, “Have you met the Rosenbergs’ daughter, Sarah? She’s perfect for you. Young, beautiful, funny, and talk about brains? She’s studying to be a doctor!” Joshua sheepishly says to her, “Mom, while I’ve been away and been able to think about it, I’ve come to the realization that I’m gay. You don’t really need to set me up with any more of your friends’ daughters.”
The mother is crushed. She spends the entire weekend pouting and Joshua goes back to college wondering if he picked the right time to come out. A month later, when he comes home for winter break, his mother greets him at the door with a big hug and says, “have you met the Goldsteins’ son, David? He’s perfect for you! Young, handsome, funny, and talk about brains? He’s studying to be a lawyer!”
Please note Sweetheart’s grumpiness towards Tip’s “activities”, and her outright shock that Nick would be doing anything similar.
I hereby predict that at some future date, Sweetheart will find some other hyper-intelligent dog and be at least twice as annoying as she finds everyone else at this point. At which point her co-workers will enjoy having their verbal revenge.
I can just see the daytime talk show headlines: “I married a helicopter!”
Have to say, it’s nice to see characters evolve a bit in a comic now and then. See Unity’s innocence in addition to Nick being more than a foul-mouthed dudebro. Knew there was a reason I was re-reading this.
Heh, Nick’s T-shirt. Entirely accurate, once you realize that “fake” modifies “girl”, not “geek”.
I just noticed that too and I’m trying not to lough out loud at work. GJ, Nick. Best irony.
*me imitating my dad imitating his mother* As long as he’s jewish!
and preferably a doctor.
I think the best we’re likely to get here is an engineer. Nice, but he’s no doctor.
But what is a doctor if not an engineer of man?
Tech Support
What about someone with a Doctorate in engineering? A Roboticist, perhaps?
anyone with the title of Doctor is fine.
Well, he’s a brain in a jar, so it’s not like he’s cis-ANYTHING at the moment.
Obviously, he’s cis-helicopter.
Trans-former.
+1!
Comfortable-in-chopper?

I’m sorry if that was misconstrued.
Nick isn’t really trans-helicopter. He’s still a helicopter, just with an extensible option to his physical environment.
He Was human by birth, Ergo trans-helicopter.

I am concerned that Nick is unintentionally coming to identify more closely with the drone body than he would ordinarily wish.
If he is fine with it then I am fine with it.

I -love- the use of that T-shirt!
Looks like Nick’s having a bit of a gender crisis. Ish. Should be interesting, even if he’s gaming (female avatar, after all).
Might not be an actual sexual identity crisis if he’s just being sarcastic.
I seem to recall the last male driver of that drone trying to seduce Tip. I wonder if it is not a side effect of this particular drone model. Or it could just be that taking the shape, even if it a robot and not living, confers some of the characteristics of the shape. That same prior driver also went after Dr. Lee.
So what’s the next step up from “It’s complicated?”
‘It’s very complicated’? followed by ‘It’s VERY complicated’?
…followed by, “Don’t ask, if you ask you’re involved..”
I know that feeling, an accurate description my sexuality takes up a semi paragraph.
If you’re lucky, “deeply ambiguous yet curiously stable.” That’s a fun place to be.

Didn’t Nick and Dr. Lee set up a dinner date awhile back? Wonder how Virginia will feel about this development.
My guess? A combination of jealous and turned on, both of which she’d be embarrassed to admit.
Any plan dot makes Ginny Lee blush is a goot plan.
Just about anything makes Ginny Lee blush.
Zo dot only meen all plans mit Ginny Lee are goot plans! Unless yoo lose yur hat. Dot alvayz bad plan.
Hmm. Score with Ginny but lose a hat in the process? I’d go with it.
But then I’m no Jaegermonster, just a Frauleinjaeger.
Sweetheart’s reaction is priceless.
Seconded.

*In my best Eastern European accent*is what I say.
And I think tip would most likely not be that interested in anyone without human fun bits anyway.
Indeed, Tip spent a significant portion of the prior story arc expressing just such disinterest.

Love the shirt! Totally acquerate just once
Oi vey. And I think Sweetheart’s brain broke.
Plus, he doesn’t look a bit Druidish.
However, I doubt Nick is a base?
