I suppose that depends on your definition of “natural”. Since any of the original sapient animals were created by genetic mutation, the only way to get “natural” ones would be as descendents – by means of normal reproduction – of an original. But that still doesn’t exactly make them natural. The police officer seems to be taking it all in stride, however.
Good point. I forgot about the “unreality blindness”. But if that’s the case, he shouldn’t even notice the reps from the lab at all. He would just assume that they’re still waiting for them to arrive (and could be wondering who Tip and Unity are talking to). Much the same as Dave’s brother Bill couldn’t see Artie-as-a-gerbil when Dave, Artie and Zeta stopped by Bill’s house, but when Artie changed into human form, Bill was suddenly (and shockingly) able to see him.
It affects certain people in different ways. Some see a human version of the talking animals. Some see the animal but don’t hear the animal speaking English. Some don’t see the animal, but they do see the damage left by the disaster.
Doesn’t matter. It’s already been established that Skin Horse has jurisdiction over NHS’s who are former humans, unless they still identify as human. And as far as we know, even that loophole may only apply to cyborgs and not biological transhumans.
No one “got” Bert the Turtle? I am now officially Old. Uh, “dadgummit!” Get off my lawn!!
Giant rodents… who “does” giant rodents? Probably some Boss with a black bird who thinks he’s human…
We’ll obviously need to see more to be sure, but I love that the turtle appears to speak in all lower-case letters. What is it about that that makes it even more adorable?
A ) Yes, she was undoubtedly exaggerating. Or simply overestimating the damage. She may be filled with unnatural fluid, but her brain is just your average everyday cloned brain, and not normally a very intelligent one, at that.
B ) That belt is designed to hold a person’s stomach in – probably against its own will – so using it to attach her lunge line isn’t out of the question. I wouldn’t trust it as a fall-arrest harness, but she’s not going to achieve that kind of velocity in a lunge.
C ) Even if her spine were damaged, as long as it was still inside her body and reasonably in place, her bodily fluid would quickly and easily knit it back together. You notice how no one actually has to stitch her arteries or nerves back together… As long as the parts are reasonably securely attached, the fluid takes care of rigidity and mobility. Remember, the fluid is Unity. The body is just a host.
But are they *natural* furries or humans *transformed* into furries? ^_^
Guess it depends whether it’s reversible or not.

The police officer may be weirdness blind and sees the scientist as just looking like Lee Van Cleef in serious need of a shave.

It’s possible the question is “were they created as furries, or are they humans who were turned into furries?”
I’d say that’s a distinction that is too fine to really be distinguished.

I really hope that, at some point, that turtle gets a hat.
…and that we someday get to see Unity in a tiny turtle’s body.
I think it’s more likely to see Unity wearing the turtle’s vacated shell as a hat.
You do realize that implies a dead turtle? A turtle’s ribs are fused to its shell. Kinda hard to “vacate” your ribcage…
Yes I do realize that. And Unity’s instinct is to kill. And she likes hats.
Gotta be honest. Turtles can rock a small bowler.
Turtle needs a little fez. Fezzes are cool! -_^ Also filled with balls of timey-wimey… stuff…
So, is Sweetheart still zonked out, all we get to see is her tail in the first frame?
Did Tip disappear from beside Unity because he had to go get his puppets?
Is anyone from the mad science lab gonna be anyone we know?
Oh! I hope it’s Mell… I really miss Mell. And she would be a perfect fit with “explosions”!
But if UNITY met Mell wouldn’t the universe implode?
It might explode, with their combined destructive tendencies.
Oh, please, let the turtle be named “Bert”! And may its creator wear little hearts and big glasses…

Rodents of Unusual Size? I don’t think they exist.
Anyone else expecting that turtle to explode?
This is furry science not drunk science
Yes.
We’ll obviously need to see more to be sure, but I love that the turtle appears to speak in all lower-case letters. What is it about that that makes it even more adorable?
Is the scientist a possum in a lab coat? Or is he a lab rat? Either way, EEEEEEEE!
An opossum would have a much lighter face compared to the rest of the fur
I wonder if the boss is anyone we know.
There is something sooo wrong about altering a life form to sapience and _still_not correcting its vision.
Or messing up its vision deliberately so it would have to wear tiny little glasses.
Could be for safety…
… unless of course you think it would be really cute in glasses – and you’re evil.
I can’t blame Helen though, as it’s not a gerbil.
That’s a pretty cute turtle.
Funny how nobody seems to wonder where Unity got a new spine on such short notice.
Or what the belt of her Milgrim is made of that is both sturdier and more flexible than a spine.
I guess a considerable number of commenters here are weirdness blind.
Or it wasn’t as broken as she said.

Between his uniform and skin tone, that cop in the first panel is pretty hard to make out, he’s pretty much just a dark blur unless you peer closely.
