Her equivalent. ODed on fresh brains. Became hyperintelligent and managed to dis everyone but Nick. Now they’re upset and she’s back to (I hesitate to say “normal”, how about) baseline condition.
Man, I missed the boat on Saturday’s strip, but dammit, a man’s gotta filk what a man’s gotta filk:
To His Moe Mistress
Had I but schvantz enough, and time,
This frankness, lady, were no crime,
We would sit down and think which tape
To watch, and speak of Ron and Snape.
Thou by the landed Osprey’s side
Shouldst Legos find; I by the tide
Of Pot’mac would complain: I miss
My own reminder of my bris,
And you should, if you please, pursue
Fleshly conversion of this Jew!
My biolog’cal love should grow,
Vaster than Wilkin’s, and more so,
By Science that doth make to shine
Thine eyes and in thy forehead find
The fire to stir within each breast…
…butIappreciatetherest!
An age to parts of every kind,
And the last age should show your mind.
For, Lady, ’tis a scary place,
That’s hid beneath an angel’s face.
But on my back I always bear
My wingèd chariot in the air;
And Sweetheart, Tip, within me ply
Desserts so vast to Unity!
When I woke up in the morning, I had made it to my hotel room somehow …
Had no memory of what went on last night, so I went downstairs for some chow …
Then I saw my friends and teammates, and they all look like they’re angry with me now …
And I realized that I’d been smart, and thrown a dart through ev’ry heart and soul.
With a zombie morning headache,
When I’ve overdosed on brains!
’Cause when I’m a super-smartie,
Then the whole darn team complains!
When I’ve seen inside their psyches,
Saying things they shouldn’t know,
Then they offer me a bagel
And suggest where it can go!
There’s a point at which “difficult and uncomfortable” turns into “unfeasible without tools.” I’d threaten her with Artie’s muffin, or maybe the hot sauce.
Were those brains tainted, somehow, I wonder? I think, though I could be wrong, that Unity is smart even without brains to know that it’s often a bad idea to point out everybody’s flaws.
No, that’s apparently close to her usual response. Remember how she was hesitant to indulge in the first place, but K.T. urged her on. As far as Unity and K.T. go, it went pretty well — she wasn’t all that “torpid”, but the “stupid” part made her immune to Unity’s barbs, and even a bit entertaining. It’s just that everyone else wandered by too….
That look on Sweetheart’s face makes me want to cry.
The lack of self-preservation in this scenario makes quite a bit of sense, though. Becoming more intelligent does not necessarily mean her personality traits will change, and Unity is not exactly cautious.
Smart Unity doesn’t seem too concerned with perpetuating her existence. You’d think she would make arrangements to have access to brains all the time so as not to disappear. But self-preservation’s apparently not high on her priority list in any mode, and anyway, it’s funnier this way.
Come to think of it… just who is supposed to be saying the last panel? It works fine as a punch line, but ISTM it doesn’t really sound like any of the present crew….
I wonder…Did anything more get said off screen? Tip’s annoyed/angry, that makes sense. Lee’s downtrodden/bummed/sad/annoyed – also logic. Artie’s unsettled/reflective/pensive/annoyed – seems logical (even if, as pointed out by another commenter, he used to be just as bad).
Sweetheart looks deeply hurt, sad and disappointed. Now, I admit, there’s some interesting secrets she’s b een keeping from Unity and all that – but as far as we know, she didn’t deduce those – or didn’t share. The only hurtful thing Unity told Sweetheart was about pushing a job off to Tip – I admit Sweetheart may not have liked that, but it seems no worse than what Unity told the others, while her expression seems far more hurt.
This is like one of my recurring nightmares ever since puberty… waking up naked in a room full of people with that look on their faces; all saying “Yes, officer… he’s the one.”
Why one of them is always my ex-roommate’s grandmother, whom I’ve only ever seen in photographs… that is a question for Tip I imagine.
To the tune of “The Dragonborn Comes”, written by Kate Covington:
Our zombie, our zombie, can’t remember last night.
I tell you, I tell you, our Unity was mean.
With a tongue that was sharp as a cuddle-snake’s bite.
You’ll know when you see her next to that machine.
It’s an end to the friendship of Skin Horse’ field team,
And also Virginia, and also Artie.
For she was a jerk, picking at social seams.
She’ll never again eat brains with such glee.
nope, not showing up for me.
Try prev then next. Worked for me.
Sooo,…A “Flowers For Algernon” type of social situation then! ~_~
Looks to me like she got drunk last night…..

We don’t see a lot of Victorian filks ’round these parts. Excellent work!
Well worth waiting for.
The original is mid-17th century, so around 200 years earlier than Victorian.
Nicely done 😀
C’mon Artie! You used to be far worse than her, you shouldn’t be so mad at her for a mere child’s play…

Note Sweetheart’s look.
That was what stood out to me… poor Sweetheart looks more hurt than angry…

She wasn’t that nice to GODOT, either.
Haters gonna hate.

Well, bear in mind she hasn’t been hyper-smart for very long, in total. Even for the Smart, it takes time to develop *wisdom*.
She ostensibly got wisdom from her time with the notaries, but you couldn’t prove it by this.
Signs that it’s going to be a bad day . . .
This has to count as one of the weirdest hangovers ever. “What do you mean I psycho-analyzed all of you?”
Come to think of it… just who is supposed to be saying the last panel? It works fine as a punch line, but ISTM it doesn’t really sound like any of the present crew….
Tip is my best guess.
Also: August J. Pollak is channeling Mad Black Ops Science.

mnem
I did it. And I’d do it again.
And mine.
That is, Pip is also my choice for the off-panel speaker. Why doesn’t the Reply link work for me?

I don’t think Ginny has any right to be angry at her; Unity tried to warn her not to talk to Nick.
Lovin’ Unity’s shirt.
