Ginny must be the daughter of whoever thought it was a good idea to take violent, bloody things like “Robocop” & “Rambo” and turn them into children’s cartoons:
I remember that one. It went on the daily afternoon block in my area and two weeks later it was gone, never to be heard of again… to all my classmate’s great confusion
It wasn’t cancelled it was just designed with that few episodes
Toxic Avengers -> Toxic Crusaders
Conan the Barbarian -> Conan the Adventurer
The Jungle Book
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
[at least a dozen more Disney movies]
There’s also a children’s mystery book based on Clue, except Mr. Body is alive throughout the whole thing. They do awkwardly explain the premise of the game at the beginning, too.
There are a series of them. Each book ends with him dying.
Each book begins with explaining his miraculous escape.
You’d think he’d stop trusting the jackholes, but nope, all are welcome at the house of Boddy.
Except that the books go by the original Cluedo names, not the Parker Bros. release, so he’s Mr. Black.
Also amusing: when Hasbro acquired the Parker Bros. properties, they took all the Clue and Cluedo secondary releases, like the movie and VHS game, and wrote out a non-canon storyline that tried to work out all the contradictions, most notable once again being Black/Boddy dying twenty-some-odd times.
There were strikes in both movies. Although I seem to recall the first movie mentioning the “blue flu”, so that was technically a sick-out rather than a strike.
Heh, my dad read me the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings as bedtime stories.
Anyway, I think she might have had an effect on Alfie, judging by his expression. Not sure why she thought it was a good idea to read a story about a product of mad science. Generally best to keep away from touchy subjects. Who’s willing to bet that the next story she’ll tell them is either the book version of Jurassic Park or I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream?
Bubbles may be a little weirded out by a story in which the hero is half man and half machine. Maybe she can relate a bit to Murphy learning to think and act on his own. As for Virginia, she’s only in it for the “let’s take an unsuspecting victim and turn him into a cyborg” bits. *COUGH-nick-COUGH!
According to legend (and Wikipedia) the Jersey Devil was the thirteenth child of a woman called Mother Leeds, so Mr. Leeds is just a more casual form of address.
Wait guys…. just a mad thought but Ginny is a sane mad scientist right? And we have no idea of the time period of the comic. Does anyone recall a bespectacled child who may have had access to the cure?
If you’re implying what I think you are, that child is blond and not even a teenager yet, assuming the comic is set in real time (which seems to be the case, judging by the current events/pop culture jokes).
We’ve seen Dr. Lee’s parents in a flashback- http://skin-horse.com/comic/todays-comic-844/
It only just occurred to me that Bubbles is basically movie Groot: basically sweet until provoked, limited vocabulary, added a word… she even took a shot at the self-sacrifice bit.
Which makes Unity the Skin Horse version of Rocket?

Bubbles seems concerned.
*Bubbles?*
What about teh Sneks??
Perhaps she blew all her gambling winnings on a hard eight…
did she tell them the plot of robocop? Ive never actual seen it.
Yes, she is telling them Robocop. 🙂
Wasn’t the strike in Robocop II?
There were strikes in both movies. Although I seem to recall the first movie mentioning the “blue flu”, so that was technically a sick-out rather than a strike.
“RoboCop” is a bedtime story?
“I’d buy that for a dollar!”
Lol!
Pakistan is threatening my boooooorder!
You can tell it was a good choice when even the emo snake is listening
Alfie is sulking elsewhere.
Nah, that’s him wrapped around Bubbles.
good eye. But is alfie impressed by the story? Not sure his expression is letting much escape.
I particularly love Bubbles’ expression of vague concern.
I would’a taken it for despair…
I’m not sure if it’s due to her considering this an appropriate story for young cobras, or the fact that Alfie is slithering around her neck again.
And are we completely sure that Ginny is actually completely sane? This could be a major hint against.
And we’re now in Devil turf. Anyone care to bet against it making an appearance?
I’m working out the odds on the Jersey Devil offering tea and cookies.
Well the Jersey Devil IS a favorite of the authors…
Which means Nick can’t be too far off. Yay!
I’ve been expecting him/her/other since they mentioned New Jersey, but our authors have overturned expectations before.

Before I could actually read, I could simulate it by holding the Hobbit and reciting the opening from memory.
Mine too!
My mom read it to my sibs and me, a happy memory.
Also: I was on the subway once when a guy was reading LoTR to a couple of kids. This made me happy.

Pine Barrens? I think I know what famous cryptid they’ll be encountering.
There seem to be two Jersey Devils listed: which one?
Not the one that just turns out to be some crazy homeless lady.
They’re going to a hockey game?
They don’t look bored. They are caught up in the story.
So, since we’re practically guaranteed to encounter Mr. Leeds, anyone want to guess what other cryptids we might encounter during the trip?
Jersey Devils?

Wasn’t the safe house that Tip Wilkin was sending Tigerlily Jones’s funk-less robots to somewhere in New Jersey, too? Is it the same one?
Just think what Tigerlily will be able to make out of Mustachio and Hitty! Making a teleporter out of coat hangers didn’t phase her.
Thought she was responsible for Moustachio’s sojourn as “The Ramshambler.” Also his eight-track mind…
The same safehouse (with the killer robots) that they took Leo to way back in the very first chapter, I assume.

What woods these are we think we know.
This house of cobra safety though;
We will too soon be stopping here
And end our mission proximo.
Our little truck is hard to steer.
We stop to leave the cobras near.
And all too soon we hit the brake,
And see if everything is clear.
We tell of RoboCop to make
A sleepytime delight of snake,
Till they, exhausted, cease to peep,
Not understanding what’s at stake.
The staff has made a quantum leap,
But we can transport on the cheap,
And tiring cobras need to sleep,
And tiring cobras need to sleep.
—from Robert Frost, “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.”
That was really really good!
Yes. Bravo!
