I’m slow. Visually, this is a callback to the scene in the St Charlie storyline where Supersmart Unity is arguing with herself, flipping from right profile to left profile between panels.
You’re thinking of this sequence (http://skin-horse.com/comic/mind-that-steel/) in My Brother Sam Is Dead. I just spent ages wondering why I was having so much trouble finding it in Railway Children…
She was created by Virginia Lee,
Given an acronym of UNITY.
Disowned by Anasigma,
And taken in by Skin Horse outright.
And if you wonder ‘bout her color,
Does it matter if she’s black-and-white?
She’s pretty violent and kinda dim.
When she rampages things are kinda grim.
She has a roommate Sweetheart,
They argue but they’re still pretty tight.
And since it makes no difference,
Does it matter if she’s black-and-white?
She can take on the mutants,
She can tear them in two.
She can handle the robots,
Though she hasn’t a clue.
She’s not scared of the crazies,
She’s not scared of the sane.
She becomes pretty tactless.
When she eats all her brains.
DC, St. Charlie, also New Orleans.
She came and blew them all to smithereens.
But now she’s with the Biomass,
Her doppleganger everglade sprite.
And now that they’re together,
Does it matter if they’re black-and-white?
Y’know, it’s amazing how often when people say “equality”, they mean “become just like me”. Casual Murder Friday might be a perk, but the song is still the same.
How did the Biomass start, anyway? In this universe, Unity (lack of initials for clarity) poisoned it under Colma. There shouldn’t be anything left.
Well yeah! CMFs have always been a morale booster!
And a mortality booster!
I think I’ve come down with dyslexia. What’s the difference?
“I am a worm that wriggles in a swamp of
Disillusionment;
I am a despairing toad;
I have got dyspepsia.”
—P. G. Wodehouse.
Better have a Briggs’ Breakfast Pickle, then.
I just love that quote!
Casual Murder Fridays sound like fun until you have to be the victim.
Or the janitor.
Or I guess just a normal person even. But then again, normal means weirdness blind, so no one important to the story I suppose.
Ah now that’s the Sweetheart we know and love
Unity. I meant Unity
+100 points for the facepalming avatar XD
eh, she kinda has a point
So can we say she’s seeing things in black and white?
Are other days serious murders?
Deadly serious.
Business murders, Sicilian neckties and all!

I seem to have got mixed up between this and a sequence where she’s talking to GODOT. I have false memory syndrome about Skin Horse!

*clap* *clap* Very well done!

Well, unless there was a miscalculation or a mistake, or unless in its “death throes” it managed to claim enough life and unlife to shake off death.
Maybe that’s the point.
The Biomass isn’t really alive in the animal sense of the word.
Nothing says an end to discrimination like indiscriminate killing.
Equality for organic beings, sure. But what about robots? The biomass is ultimately just another divisive faction.
