Since it’s St. Charlie, they’ve probably got some time yet.
I’d bet that “Prepare the justice machines” actually means, “Invent and build the justice machines.”
Since this St. Charlie, they may actually have less time then they think.
“Hey Dr. Bob! You know those reaper drones that you wanted to field test? Just shove them out airlock A-32, will you? We already have sensors recording.”
The Law Machine in Buck Godot is only harmless because there are no laws for it to enforce on New Hong Kong, where law itself is illegal. Elsewhere they’re pretty terrifying.
I’m Captain Kinlin of the Outer Guard!
This post-apocalypse is hard!
I’m kinda Boston provost guard.
I play this be-bop medley
I hunt these Scourges when I can,
When I can, when I can,
I hunt these Scourges when I can,
For I’m prepared with a medley.
Chorus:
I’m Captain Kinlin of the Outer Guard!
I’ve found a Scourge in this courtyard!
My duty I can’t disregard!
I’m a Captain with a medley!
‘Twas not so very long before,
Ms. Wilkin came up to our door.
When this enemy left, an oath we swore,
To hunt her down with a medley!
When she left here, people we tried,
People we tried, people we tried.
When she left here, people we tried,
To hunt her down with a medley!
And now we’ve got a good machine.
(It might’ve run on gasoline.)
For justice now we’ll cause a scene,
And kill her quick with a medley!
The citizens, they shouted loud,
They shouted loud, man, they were loud!
The citizens, they shouted loud,
“Just take her out with a medley.”
Oops!
I’m guessing the fact that is jazz means something
*it’s
Well, really, it’s the justice machines they don’t prepare that you need to pay attention to.
So, there might be justice machines that run on rock’n’roll?
That it’s pretentious and not popular?
I was thinking more along the lines of it being what this universe’s Tigerlily Jones listens to
Used to be all the cool detective shows ran on jazz intros, now we have the Who.
No matter how hard I squint, I can’t re-arrange “Captain Kinlin of the Outer Guard” into “Tigerlily Jones.” Missing LYJS.
Perhaps this happentrack’s version goes by “Berenice.”
Or Jybernicles for the LYJS.
Since it’s St. Charlie, they’ve probably got some time yet.
I’d bet that “Prepare the justice machines” actually means, “Invent and build the justice machines.”
Naturally. You wouldn’t ant to use OUTDATED justice machines would you?
Since this St. Charlie, they may actually have less time then they think.
“Hey Dr. Bob! You know those reaper drones that you wanted to field test? Just shove them out airlock A-32, will you? We already have sensors recording.”
is the music they play while you wait to be executed worse than elevator music?
Some Thelonious Monk pieces were kinda grating on my ears, so maybe.
If my exposure to science fiction over the years has taught me anything, it’s that “Justice Machines” are _never_ good news.
Buck Godot is an exception.
The Law Machine in Buck Godot is only harmless because there are no laws for it to enforce on New Hong Kong, where law itself is illegal. Elsewhere they’re pretty terrifying.
Dunno, they did a pretty good job handling XTel when the loophole got closed. They just make elections REALLY important.
I guess that depends of which side of the Lawgiver you are facing.

Sex positive = mass murder positive? I bet there’s a story there…
Women got hit with a plague that made them murder anybody they were sexually attracted to, so yep.
“Kinlin” is almost an anagram of “Wilkin”. Coincidence?
@maarvarq, I’m afraid it is a coincidence, as it’s my actual last name.
My first and last names together anagram to “insane link”, FWIW.
Have I not done an archive trawl since 2015? Shame, past me!
Sean, at least you weren’t eaten by zombies in your second strip!
The Justice Machine? Challenger, Diviner, Titan, Blazer, Demon, Chain, Talisman, Youthquake, and Ms. Liberty?
Might the justice machines have potentially useful portal parts?
So this is where Sergio gets Portal parts? Good thinking!
I’m a captain!!
“Enjoy this jazz medley while we prepare the justice machines” is a phrase that needs to be said far more often.
