This may, in fact, be the only approach that would work on Cinderblock, short of somehow convincing Panoptica to stop treating Rhodey as a hostile, and change her orders, which hasn’t worked yet.
I’m not too sure. Cinder and Pan between them seem to have cornered their team’s entire supply of common sense and quick wittedness and in any chess game between the two of them it’s possible that that our money should be on Cinderblock. Not necessarily a Genius Bruiser but not necessarily that far from it as far as her teammates are concerned either and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it turned out that she did have legitimate claim to that distinction.
Um… no one on their team has displayed any common sense or quick-wittedness, unless you want to still consider Shelby on their team. But he’s kind of defected — in itself a display of common sense.
It’s possible that you and I are looking at the same thing and seeing different things in this regard since I did feel I saw flashes of that from those two characters. My own feeling also is that Unity and Sweetheart would not have gone down when fighting them if they didn’t have something on the ball.
Don’t forget that Panoptica can not only read thoughts, but also manipulate minds. So she could easily just persuade Sweetheart to give up. And Unity was trying to stop Cinder (translate: chew on her head), but she doesn’t do so well against someone made out of cement.
Yes, Pan had a brief flash of intelligence when she used Unity’s safety phrase, and an equally brief flash of wit when she told Shelby he’d be great on those FBI warnings, but I can’t say I’ve seen much else to indicate that either of them is doing anything other than blindly following orders, and removing anyone who tries to stop them.
Cinder a genius bruiser? She’s not as ditzy as Goose Girl certainly, but that’s sort of like saying a runaway train displays a better sense of direction than a one-winged plane.
Panoptica has been sounding much more like Mr. Green than she did in previous chapters. It makes me wonder if Anasigma somehow ‘reversed’ her mental powers so that they could manipulate her mind. We haven’t seen her use mental attacks in this chapter. She might have learned the phrase “blueberry waffles” from Anasigma.
In fact, we’ve never seen her use “mental attacks”. The only substantial demonstration of any kind that we’ve seen of her power was when she had that meeting inside Nick’s mind.
But as Pan says, minds are chaotic. So reading their thoughts is mostly useless. Artie described mad genius as a “brain potluck”. But really, the collection of thoughts inside a normal person’s head is no less random on any given day. It takes a great deal of discipline to keep one’s thoughts focused. And let’s face it, hardly anyone on that ship has that much mental discipline.
Apparently, her power is being proportionately as strong as a goose. Well, that, and the whole ‘flying’ bit. Unfortunately, it seems to have come with being proportionately as stupid as a goose as well. And yes, ultra-excitable… and LOUD.
Aerodrome, on the sea road,
Where we were before.
Flyin’ along in Zerhakker’s gyro,
And a-thinkin’ it’s all been blown.
But the missiles seemed so far away,
When their tracks began to come.
Somebody’s aimin’ to make us prey,
And they want us removin’ on.
Oh, big ol’ net confiner,
Will carry us up and away.
Oh, oh, big ol’ net confiner,
‘Cause in it that we’re forced to stay.
Shot at by AGI alone,
Shot at by people we trusted.
We’ve got to get out, got to get away,
If these things hit you know we might get combusted.
But our minds keep making us wonder,
Are we on a journey to heaven?
By-and-by, fallin’ out of the sky,
They might have fired five or six
Or maybe was it seven?
Big ol’ net confiner,
Will carry us up and away.
Oh, oh, big ol’ net confiner,
‘Cause in it that we’re forced to stay.
Down at least on New England beast,
Feelin’ safe all around.
We’ve got to view on, interview on,
You know that Rhodey’s back was our point of touchdown.
Then we’re showin’ up some elevation,
Because we were out at sea.
And then we got caught up in one of those
Funky NETS hangin’ down just a bitty.
Oh, big ol’ net confiner,
Will carry us up and away.
Oh, oh, big ol’ net confiner,
‘Cause in it that we’re forced to stay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Big ol’ net confiner,
Carry us up and along.
Oh, oh, big ol’ net confiner,
Is this net where we belong?
What’s been Tip up to? We haven’t seen him being locked up: perhaps he’s seducing the rest of the crew into a mutiny? (Or is the super trio the only crew? That would be impossible with a normal aircraft carrier, but maybe this is all mad-science automated).
Well, this carrier undoubtedly does require a much smaller crew complement than a normal ship. The crew is — at the very least — Bubbles, Alfie, and Sweetdaddy. The Killbots may be there as well. I imagine Killbot 2 as the galley officer. Bubbles may have brought the whole safehouse on board. She may have even hired the Jersey Devils to fill out the crew.
As for Tip, I doubt he crawled into the cable ducts with Nera — it would be hell on his suit — but I imagine that if he isn’t locked up, he’s probably doing his best to stay out of sight.
I think I used to work for those guys

Well, this approach may also work on Panoptica. She seems, at least, to just be following what the computer says as well.

I think it shows that just because someone has super powers doesn’t mean they’re super smart—or even street smart.

In Champions or GURPS terms would Goose Girl really serve any function other then that of Incompetent 14< DNPC? o_O
Couldn’t you ask yourself, Goose Girl, *why* the mystery voices are dissing you?
What exactly is Goose Girl’s super power? Being more excitable than your average person couldn’t be it. Could it?
Apparently, her power is being proportionately as strong as a goose. Well, that, and the whole ‘flying’ bit. Unfortunately, it seems to have come with being proportionately as stupid as a goose as well. And yes, ultra-excitable… and LOUD.

Of course, he could have spent all this time looking for a more appropriate outfit…

Shame on you, Nera, getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
