Unless you use a dummy instead, a lookalike, and what not. For Nick it’s simple, get a word data base, and have it spout out random words to make it seem like he’s stuck in a cursing rampage.
…and the beach is now leaking into the forest. Mr. Green, either you’re pulling off an extraordinary Xanatos Gambit or you have completely lost control of the situation.
To judge by the words of our young friend in the last panel it’s more like a “Plucky kid follows after the heroine” type situation. At least on the surface. Given that our supposedly in control Mr. Green didn’t know about either the beach town or the beach town chicks, I’d say that in practice “The Daughters of the Air” are now taking the initiative in making friendly contact with Ginny. ^_^
I’d forgotten about them! You’re right, those just might be the ones adding to the World of Extirpation here. If so, what’s their endgame? Do they think Dr. Lee can somehow avert the New War?
Actually, I’m not sure Dr. Ao (whoever he is in this incarnation) said anything about being willing to kill Nick. There’s some indication he wants Dr. Lee to do it herself.
It’s a common feature in secret societies to make some truly foul act part of the membership procedure, so the initiate feels they can never go back to normal.
They took all the sticks and put them in a stick museum,
And dragged all the people into a VR hell to see ’em.
Don’t it always seem to go,
That you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone,
They extirpated Ginny,
And gave her a VR walnut.
Yay! More Beatrix! 😀
At this point, how would she know if he already did kill Nick?
She wouldn’t.
Presumably because he can use Nick as a hostage. Dead entities made poor hostages.

I’d be willing to be Dr. Lee could spot an impostor Nick pretty easily at this point.
Which doesn’t preclude Mr. Green trying it, since he clearly thinks he knows Dr. Lee a lot better than he does.
Only if your ultimatum doesn’t include “give up on them they are dead”. And in this case, that’s part of the “bargain”.
I see that Ally Acquisition Phase has now begun. ^_^

Both, I think.
Or Virginia is transitioning back to the beach. There were walnuts in the Forest of DOOM before she found the work camp.

I intend to personally attempt the A.A.P in 2 weeks…

Heh.
So a Big Yellow Taxi driven by Jonah and Nera will swing by to save the day?
That would be truly awesome. And if anyone other than Nick can hack a shadow government VR, it’s Nera.
Wouldn’t it be cool if Nera’s mom turned out to be Mr. Green’s boss?
And distressing on an equal level if Nera’s mom turned out to be Mr. Green.
I’m telling you, Beatrix is, or at least represents, Unity.
