It also came to me, just a few minutes ago or I would’a put it up in the first place…that it could be Baron Mistycorn coming out of his VR casino and riding to their rescue in Mercury J. The Baron does have four drivers licenses.
Haven’t racked up any in more than ten years. Can’t get more than a couple feet into the room from the clutter.
First issue bought: May 1971. Second issue bought: May 1972. First issue in the mail: July 1972. (That meant I missed the first part of Joe Haldeman’s “The Forever War,” but, hey, I probably wouldn’t have understood it at that age.)
I’m frankly amazed that the goons had enough foresight to use analog guns and gear. They have not shown those kinds of brains in the past. Wonder who’s doing the thinking for them?
The Anasig guys show no fear. They brought along analog gear. They couldn’t surprise them, but someone demised them with a boxing glove hard on the ear.
Springs? I suspect Tigerlily Jones.
You’re right! She did equip Mercury J. Buchanan with spring-loaded defenses!
And Baron does have his driver’s license…
I so badly want to see a clockwork Autobot now.
Pendulum Prime?
Is that a reference to dangly bits?
Apparently, that’s already a thing: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Vector_Prime
Though whoever designed this guy, they seem to be a bit confused about what “clockwork” is actually supposed to look like…
I was kinda disappointed that Mercury J. Buchanan didn’t do the driving himself.
We don’t know for sure yet that he isn’t. 😉

I came here to say this, but knew in my heart that it had already been said.
Me too, but wth more spring pow-ered puns.
That’s my guess too, but wouldn’t the Chuck Jones vibe of the automatic boxing glove be outside her aesthetic?
There’s some overlap in Looney Tunes style, if you look at her vehicle on the cast page. http://skin-horse.com/cast/
(Although some might call it more Dr. Sueuss-ish. )
Can I just say I love the way you depicted the sound effect for ‘SPROING’?
Really conveys that sense of wobbliness.
The artwork is great in the third panel, too. Very classic.
Baron for the ….. save?
That is the first time in a long while that “visual” comedy has genuinely made me laugh. Brilliant.
The best thing I’ve seen on my screen for a long time
I’ve been subscribing to Analog since 1972.
Man, how many rooms do you have dedicated to it?!
The individual issues aren’t all that large. One bookcase would do it. I have almost that many years of Analog

The guy in the middle tells them he has a gun he can use, rather than showing them, or even putting it in a firing position… He’s Ira, isn’t he?
“You sly dog! You got me monologuing!” …actually, that works even better here than in the original.
But he does show the gun. It is so big, not showing it would be impressive.
Giant spring-loaded boxing gloves, one of the all time great comedy concepts, narrowly beaten by giant spring-loaded custard pies.
If you die on social media, do you die in real life?
You might as well.
*GASP* Is this the return of Hitty and Mustachio?!
Beware the boxing glove of DOOM!
Of course they already have a name and battle plan for it. Of course they do

And who even knew about Nick’s abilities?
Someone savvy enough to coin the term “electrokinetic”. (I wish I’d thought of that!)
It does neatly explain the lag time in Anasigma’s massed response…
I just realized I could have used “electrokinetic” as a single line in my limerick. Damn.
Fits even better in a double-dactly than a limerick. 🙂 (Or maybe it’s just that I lie double-dactyls too much.)

Robert, I just have to applaud that one!
Tip!! Less Disclosure! More Bang-Bang!
I see Nick is reverting to his internet troll instincts under pressure.
