Type “kotobuki” into Google Images (I’d provide a link, but Google Image url’s are huge). I’m assuming that the reference is to Tsumugi Kotobuki from the anime “K-On”, the blond chick in most of the images results. I don’t remember a particular instance of her using puppy dog eyes, but she could probably kill someone at ten paces with them.
They’ve had 60 years to learn to shine the moment a sucker or camera comes into view. They even know when they’re in-frame for a shot taken from a different universe.
I really don’t get why she’s apparently taking what he said seriously. What, exactly, are his credentials for being a good judge of character? Being a mad scientist from decades ago who used to brainwash children? And appears to be on the side of the non-humans not in a “they’re people and they should have rights” way, but in a “it would be great if they destroyed humanity and took over the world” way.
I’m down with non-humans having rights, but not with them committing genocide. Is that going to be considered “speciest” now?
I wondered the same thing. And then I wondered if she’d consider the term “puppy-dog eyes” offensive–maybe like one of those stereotypes that’s actually kind of flattering but that people (or dogs or whoever) object to anyway because it’s still a stereotype.

In the Little House, out in the heartland,
A film that warned against our friends was found …
So Sweetheart gives the order to depart, and
Let this whole place get bulldozed to the ground!
She frowns and says, “The Whimsy Park’s a shambles,
We can’t help here,” but Tip does not concur …
With psy-cho-log-ic leverage, he gambles
To find the heart that’s under all that fur!
[CHORUS:]
Can’t deny … those cryin’ eyes!
They will fo-o-o-orce you to sympathize!
Can’t resist, though Sweetheart tries
To despise the guys, pint-size, with cryin’ eyes!
Well, so much for the “Sweetheart wants to abandon the Little House to its fate because she can’t handle that Skin Horse might not be the good guys” theory. Turns out it’s more “Sweetheart doesn’t want Skin Horse to interfere with the Little House situation any further because they might not be the good guys”.
I’m glad Tip figured it out (and presumably Unity) – maybe Skin Horse can’t help, but A Group of Individuals That Coincidentally Are Skin Horse Employees on Vacation Together still can!
After all, Dr. Lee works for Anasigma but she hangs around with Skin Horse and helps them sometimes. Maybe they can ask her for tips on quietly undermining their secret, possibly evil organization.
Shaenon didn’t draw, and Pancha didn’t color, Unity’s eyeballs in today’s strip. That eliminates the extreme contrast on the dark side of Unity’s face, but changes her a bit. Somehow she seems less wild a character than even before the coloring started (though she doesn’t have any lines today). It’ll be interesting to see what other changes occur as the team works out the new look.
They know the POWER OF THE EYES!
It’s over 9000 Kotobukis!
Ko-what?

No, man, it’s older school than that. Look for C-Ko Kotobuki from Project A-Ko.
Yep. The Kotobuki is a measure of cuteness, where one Kotobuki is as kawaii as C-ko.
Vitreous humour pumps to maximum!

They’re adorable — like little defanged cobras, but with limbs, fur, and protruding ears.
Also, Sweetheart, the dead middle-aged white guy from the 1960s may not actually be the wisest of them all, because this is make-believe.

Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!
…Wait, wrong universe. And genre. And medium.
Still, that alone was worth the fifteen bucks I put down on ME3: Citadel.
But…but, shouldn’t Sweetheart be immune to puppy-dog eyes?
Who do you think puppy-dog eyes were originally developed for if not a dog?

You, sir, have outdone yourself.
Yes – half the reason I read this strip is for these filks.
Sweetheart, you do not know the power of the cuteside! Give in to your puppy dog eyes, The Kawaii is swelling in you now….
*snicker*
We are the Cutebots. Prepare to be squeeed. Resistance is futile.
What WHimsyCorp needs is a fresh infusion of Cute. Get the cobras here STAT!

Sweetheart could pull the rug out from everyone by having another heart attack. Make them all feel guilty for killing her. That’d show them.
That giraffe really has a big mouth, doesn’t he? Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised that animatronic characters are typecast. 🙂
You tell her, Tip!
All those automata with puppy dog eyes and nary a puppy dog among them.
I thought the blue guy in the last panel WAS a puppy dog. He even has a nose like Sweetheart’s, but pink.
So he is. I stand corrected.
What’s that line from The Exorcist? oh yeah (kinda), “The power of cute compels you…the power of cute compels you…the power of cute compels you!”

Ehh, never mind. I see from the archives that Unity has appeared that way a number of times.
Bureaucracy meets morality.
The epic battle begins . . .
Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.
