I see, so thats what you ment by “Sure as You’re Born” its one one of those kind of story arcs (then again this is skin horse, who knows what kind of subversion we will see)
“It’s hard enough to be respected as a nonhuman [in my experience] […] I’m thinking of [my] basic welfare [by staunchly refusing to acknowledge anything that would make me even slightly less acceptable to the people I’ve spent my life trying to please].”
Seems like they are either speaking from experience, having learned from their mistakes, or, more likely, are willfully blind to any other alternatives.
No, her “freak out and immediately grab a guy for a date, never mind he’s a supervillain” reaction to Unity’s smooch suggests a general diving into the closet.
…you know, it suddenly occurs to me a startling number of Skin Horse members are essentially living weapons.
UNITY, Sweetheart, and Nick were all created for war. Tip is a career soldier with a specialization in Psychological Warfare. Moustachio is a weapon of mass destruction. Dr. Lee is a weapons designer.
One true unknown is Gavotte, but an intelligent swarm of bees capable of giving orders? Sounds like a bioweapon program to me. Another unknown is Ira, who may or may not be a time traveler and/or secret agent.
And I suppose we do also have to consider Chris and Marcie since they joined Skin Horse proper recently, and they’re technically both civilians. But they’re also basically devoted to irradiating things without having been given any explanation as to why, and their work has created all sorts of mutated life forms.
Could they secretly be pawns in a military bioweapon program? Why spend all that time, effort, and money trying to design a living weapon when you could just irradiate all sorts of random stuff for super cheap? Eventually one of them might turn out to be militarily useful by random chance.
Heck, even minor characters qualify. Konstantin is Russian Special Forces. Bubbles is a commercial AI that got put into a military drone built for espionage and wetworks.Half the reason Tigerlily is kept locked up is so she can build mad science death rays for the government on a budget.
Of course the majority of Skin Horse’s members are sentient weapons. So are most of their clients. Skin Horse represents people who are largely products of mad science. And mad scientists love turning things to destructive ends and weaponizing everything much more than they do working on peaceful projects.
I like how Sweetheart’s argument is the same the LGBTQ+ use for distancing themselves from NAMBLA.
With everyone involved wanting to push their own agenda on the couple of radical experimental physicists, I predict that soon we shall see the violence inherent in the system.
At this point I would not be surprised if the turtles turn out to be ninjas. Nobody has paid attention to them for so long now that we can’t be sure where they are or what they are up to.
We distance ourselves from NAMBLA because we oppose pedophilia. Pedophilia isn’t “other stuff”; it’s child abuse, and anyone with any sense knows the difference between that and being LGBTQ.
The comic is technically grammatically correct, since the two clients share a single sexual identity (assuming they really are both cis males, and we were never led to believe otherwise). But if he had said “identities”, it would have been more correct, since it would cover the possibility of having different identities.
But Dementron is right… Tip should have said “sexual orientation”, since he was referring to the fact that they’re gay.

Soooooo deep in the closet that she’s discovering civilizations of intelligent coathangers.
Where even the skeletons fear to tread.
Mmf, that’s sounding more like the LGB-minus-T and exclusively-straight feminist civil rights (in)fights than simply Sweetheart being closeted, to me.
Little of column A, little of column B?
“It’s hard enough to be respected as a nonhuman [in my experience] […] I’m thinking of [my] basic welfare [by staunchly refusing to acknowledge anything that would make me even slightly less acceptable to the people I’ve spent my life trying to please].”
There’s an old saying about how nobody is such a fervent traditionalist as someone who’s already rebelled…

Okay, we need to see those civilizations in a future story arc. I want to see what the architecture of sapient coathangers would look like.
I blame the media.(After all, the positive portrayal of sentient or at least highly intelligent dogs is a historical norm: gay couples, not so much)
Less talk, more war dog-zombie smooches!
Technically war dog-war nanite swarm smooches.

Only about 10% of a military force are fighting at most. The rest is logistics and administrative overhead.
Skin Horse is part of the administrative overhead.
They are now.
Of course the majority of Skin Horse’s members are sentient weapons. So are most of their clients. Skin Horse represents people who are largely products of mad science. And mad scientists love turning things to destructive ends and weaponizing everything much more than they do working on peaceful projects.
Don’t forget Hitty.
Welllll, technically, the bits in Leviticus that generally cause trouble say nothing about gay *non-humans*… or lesbians, for that matter…
Leviticus says a lot of things…but I don’t recall coconut shell beads being specifically mentioned.
It should have been
Dante had a circle just for them, but it was cut by his editor.
Does Sweetheart mean that if that Mercutio and Tony come out, they lose their welfare benefits?

What?
The turtles are a few days back.
We distance ourselves from NAMBLA because we oppose pedophilia. Pedophilia isn’t “other stuff”; it’s child abuse, and anyone with any sense knows the difference between that and being LGBTQ.
I think it should be “clients’ sexual identities”. Not sure though.
Sexual orientation, actually. Identity is something else.

Sweetheart? Either grow up or go defenestrate yourself.
