This might be more relevant for last updat but, this is a clever way of them (probably) realizing that their on the wrong side in the weirdest way possible.
Either Artie has been in this bar for quite a long time now, or EB and AA descended into creating this full melodramatic breakup den Fast. The sane answer favors the greater timeskip, but…
I think it could be argued that the first 3 panels take place on the same day, and maybe even the same hour as the drone going to meet the missile, but the last panel takes place the next day. (EB spends a sad night missing Valiant per yesterday’s strip. Skipped: AA is released from hospital in the morning, goes to EB’s hotel room (or maybe they meet in AA’s hotel room, I dunno) where crybonding happens.)
Guess it depends on if EB and AA still have anything left to do this chapter. They could just fade off into the night, weeping dramatically, but if they intersect back in with the plot, the timelines need to sync up somehow π
Probably was fast…but Echo Bravo does seem to have lost his arm sling and Alfa Alfa seems to be out of the hospital. Some time passed for *them*, I guess.
You could work in other time frames. How does any of it fit into or around Renard’s epic journey across America?
β’ Artie, in human form, stark naked, flinging the drone up and out into the sky to meet the incoming missile. β (nope!)
β’ The drone will strive to strike a dramatic pose in midair, and intone a dramatic exit line. ββ (mixed)
β’ Echo Bravo and Alfa Alfa will cry and bond over how noble they were. β(crying may also be due to missing Valiant).
β’ Valiant will weep as well, bereft. β
β’ Artie and Sergio will experience mutual ear-burning embarrassment (and arousal) over Artie’s nudity. β (nope! or at least, not yet)
In the background of the first panel, I love how sir serpient has embraced the convivial atmosphere and bonhomie of this fine establishment to make new friends!
Or has he simply enthralled his acquaintances with pre-dinner conversation?
Hey Frank, do you have a counter-counter-arguement about my criticism about the sentient eat sentient trope or nothing? I guess I just want someone to talk to about this stuff.
Alphaghoul, IIRC Frank was offering Looney Tunes “cartoon violence” as an example of sentient-eating-sentient ethics? Although I can’t recall Daffy or Bugs ever making it to the table…
Personally, I love the original Looney Tunes versions and deplore how their creator’s art has been eviscerated. But although I draw the line at calamari I hypocritically enjoy beef and pork (and remain curious about hippopotamus).
Wasn’t there a Dr. Who episode which introduced “galactic gourmands”?
I believe the true wealth of our planet is it’s biodiversity! π
I believe you’re thinking of “The Two Doctors,” a Colin Baker era story where Patrick Troughton gave a wonderfully over-the-top performance. Don’t recall the entire plot, but it centered on an alien gourmand whose personality slowly infected the Second Doctor, leaving it up to the Sixth Doctor to save the day. The highlight of the story came when Troughton and the alien went to a restaurant (in Spain, I seem to recall) and asked, “Do you serve humans here?” You can probably guess where that joke went next…
Drawing the line at calamari but enjoying pork… last week’s “This American Life” show revisited the question of whether pig bung could pass as calamari. The conclusion, following a blind taste test: oh, yes it can. Slice just about anything thin and deep fry it, and it tastes like something thin-sliced and deep-fried; in other words, delicious!
Would he have been working for Anasigma and then the new Skin-Horse if he were an inhuman monster? They were kinda down on inhuman monsters, last I saw.
I had to look up seaweed scrub. I found a DIY recipe which is equal parts seaweed powder, olive oil, and sea salt. So why did AA apparently have this in an pint container in her freezer? Just general Anasigma indifference to evil?

Well, Alpha, anyway. Echo ended up being less invested, and seems to be more worried about Alpha eating her stuff.
Other way ’round. These names are hard to keep track of!
She’s telling him he’s not eating ice cream, which is a direct response to him stating that it’s awful. It’s probably not why she’s crying.

Makes sense to me, Owlmirror!

Why would anyone be looking for the sane answer?

So wait, did a missile just go off near them? You’d think they’d notice, even if the drone moved far enough that it wasn’t a direct hit.
Probably impacts just after Artie’s comment in panel 3…
That final panel may dispute the “remorseless killers” angle, but it still confirms that at least Echo Bravo is an inhuman monster.
Would he have been working for Anasigma and then the new Skin-Horse if he were an inhuman monster? They were kinda down on inhuman monsters, last I saw.
If Artie and Sergio can finally meet up, maybe there’s hope that Alfa Alfa and Echo Bravo and Valiant can meet up, too.
Remorseful killers?
Apropos of this comment, I’ll refer you to Lewis Carroll’s “The Walrus and the Carpenter.”
Itβs an example of sentient-on-sentient predation as well.
Seaweed scrub may not be appetizing, but at least it’s not walnuts.
I had to look up seaweed scrub. I found a DIY recipe which is equal parts seaweed powder, olive oil, and sea salt. So why did AA apparently have this in an pint container in her freezer? Just general Anasigma indifference to evil?
Who ever said it was in her freezer? EB isn’t the brightness bulb in the box, you know.
Solution: turn ’em into rats!
(It worked for Splinter.)
I endorse this plan
Helen could probably turn them into gerbils.
“Ah, you know lad, that love business, it’s a powerful thing.”
“Greater than gravity?”
“Well, yes, boy, in its way, Yes, Iβd say it is”
I’m still loving this stuff! <3 <3 <3
I like the juxtaposition of lines in the first frame that makes it look like the snake has arms and is cheering.
Artie’s going to have a lot of questions when he sees the little crater outside the sewer.
