Only one of those appeared in the prologue for this arc, so, based on narrative principles, my money’s on brainy!alt!Unity. She will at least play a significant role, I’m sure.
Ack. This is what I get for relying on memory. Yeah, alt!Sergio did pop his head in for one panel, but the prologue did focus on alt!Unity. I’m not changing my bet.
Hmm… I wonder who the other characters are. U.N.I.T.Y could easily be either the Tin Man or the Scarecrow. If Mustachio were here, he’d be the Tin Man, but he’s not here, so U.N.I.T.Y gets the job. I don’t want to typecast Sweetheart as the Cowardly Lion just because she’s furry and walks on four legs, but that might actually work. Tip is Dorothy. I suppose I better make Sergio the Scarecrow. Knowing this comic, the flying monkeys are probably literally flying monkeys.
It was mentioned long ago that it is not a one-to-one correlation between the Skin Horse characters and the Oz characters. Most of them do favour one Oz character over the others, but they have attributes of more than one.
Hmm… Somebody was specifically trying to lure an alternate team who needed a cypress cure, probably because that would indicate that a bunch of other variables are just right. Sounds like a very Sergio-esque plan.
Not to mention that UNITY’s brain is cloned from Mell’s, and Mell knew Sergio at school and called him “kid” (see Li’l Mell for details).
What interests me is that Sergio commented on it the first time she did it, but hasn’t since. I have a strong suspicion that he is fully aware that there’s some kind of link between UNITY and Mell…
Yeah, it kind of seems more like a Nick wrong-curse, doesn’t it? Maybe Unity heard Nick use that as a wrong-curse once, and picked it up because she thought it was funny.
My conjecture is that there were two factions involved: (Which might be individuals)
* The first faction destroyed the portal to keep the second faction from getting out.
* The second faction set up the spoofing to lure someone in to repair the portal.
You might have something there. Sergio will certainly have to repair/rebuild the portal at some point in order to get the cure back to the Cypress. (Assuming they find a cure for her there.)
You know, every time I see Sergio I find myself thinking of him as Carlos from Welcome to Night Vale. He’s a scientist, he’s easily hot enough, and all we need is a strange but amazingly attractive radio host to show up any time now….. 😀
Just a note:
In a column in the Hunting and Fishing section of today’s Houston Chronicle the writer correctly used the word “extirpated”.
I wonder if he reads Skin Horse.
So what’s the odds on the evil genius turning out to be either this universe’s Sergio or (my bet) Unity hopped up on brains?
Only one of those appeared in the prologue for this arc, so, based on narrative principles, my money’s on brainy!alt!Unity. She will at least play a significant role, I’m sure.
Um, both of those appeared in the prologue. Right?
Ack. This is what I get for relying on memory. Yeah, alt!Sergio did pop his head in for one panel, but the prologue did focus on alt!Unity. I’m not changing my bet.
My bet is on crazy zombie mentor causing the damage or fake readings, but Brain UNITY for the main trouble/problem for the group (With no cure)
the Wizard (Mr. Green)
Dave
Mel (who paid Dave to do it)
Evil!sergio
Evil!artie
Artie (but for good reasons not evil ones)
ANYONE FROM ANASIGMA
wait that was supposed to be prefaced with “some guesses as to who did this”
Aww… Now I really want it to be Dave or Helen.
Helen’s Mom, Alpha?
Mr. Green is “The Wizard”?

I thought Nick was the Tin Man and M was Tik-Tok?

“I’d rather have a nemesis than be wrong.” Words to live by. 😀
It’s always good to have someone to blame. Source of 90% of conspiracy theories.
Hmm… Somebody was specifically trying to lure an alternate team who needed a cypress cure, probably because that would indicate that a bunch of other variables are just right. Sounds like a very Sergio-esque plan.
I was thinking Evil!Sweetheart, but just couldn’t picture her with a mustache and goatee…
Uh-oh. An evil Mad, Sergio-aware… what if this is the Evil Mel Kelly?
How would that be different from a regular Mel Kelly?
It doesn’t bear thinking about. Shuddering, whimpering, yes. Not thinking… Everything can always get worse… including her!
Think of Ren Hoek and Hideously Evil Ren Hoek…
But wouldn’t Mirror!Mel actually be NICE?
Either nice or even more evil. Doesn’t bear thinking about, does it?
Mell isn’t mad, in any case. Mad-adjacent, certainly, but her brand of evil is much more controlled.
I think Unity is using a clone of Mel’s brain… and if you recall what happened to Mirror Sewer Santa, it seems eviler is more likely.
Seph, didn’t Helen graduate Mel to full-fledged Mad? No longer a mere Mad Intern…
No. Shaenon was quite emphatic that Mel is not Mad. “She’s a budding evil overlord” were her exact words.
Why does Unity call Sergio “kid?” Isn’t she like, nine?
It’s not years, it’s mileage, and by Unity’s perspective, Sergio has been pretty sheltered.

I am really going to have to sit down and read those “Narbonic” books I bought awhile ago—I miss so many references.
You totally need to read those. Like, now.
You’d think that someone who eats all kinds of things wouldn’t use “eat” as a synonym for “suck.”
“Bites,” “blows.”

Instead of “Age of Ultron” this Earth could be under the “Age of Bubbles”!
An evil Bubbles? Terrifying!
My money’s on GODOT. If anyone has a record of spoofing readings and setting up elaborate scenarios to get what they want, it’s them.
Hey, no one’s brought up the other genius in the group, Artie. Alt-Artie could be formidable.
You know, every time I see Sergio I find myself thinking of him as Carlos from Welcome to Night Vale. He’s a scientist, he’s easily hot enough, and all we need is a strange but amazingly attractive radio host to show up any time now….. 😀
