Given that Mirror!Sergio is on life support and – given we know know it was the gerbil behind the curtain all along – unresponsive as far as we can tell, it’s entirely possible he suffered some sort of brain damage, and, therefore, Mirror!Artie can’t be sure that ethical intellect is even still THERE.
I thought it might be something similar to that. Given that he seems to have fooled Claire into thinking he was Sergio, I’m beginning to question several parts of Artie’s plan.
Why pretend to be Sergio and enlist Claire’s help? If it was Mirror Sergio, I could understand, given that he can’t really do anything whilst in the Iron Lung. But Artie can assume human form. Why work through Claire at all?
Secondly, why does he need the Skin-Horse team to attract the Biomass? It’s obvious why the team would attract it, but Mirror Sergio clearly didn’t think it was necessary to attract it all to join it. Then again, Mirror Sergio is in an Iron Lung and Sweetheart has proven to be pretty good bait. Maybe Mirror Sergio just miscalculated – I don’t think he’s capable of projecting stochastic trends on the same level as Artie.
Is it possible that Mirror-Artie is being selfish about this and wants to either send our Sergio into the biomass or keep him for himself while mirror-Sergio goes in.
Sacrifice is sending yourself into doom for the greater good. Twisted is sending a bunch of other people into that doom who hadn’t any idea what they were getting into. See, there is a difference, Artie.
Then again the plan wouldn’t work anyway. Your talking about a possible ethical moral vs an insane monster. even if the ethical boost might work you would still be out weighed by all the unethical monsters, peoples, mutants… and mad scientist.
Or as Wolverine put it to Magneto I’m the first movie: “You are so full of crap. I’d you were really so righteous it’d be you strapped to that (machine that kills the mutant powering it)”
Maybe they can give the Biomass Sergio’s ethical intellect without taking the rest of Sergio with it. Hey, I’ll bet that’s what Our Sergio is there for—a replacement part, one way or the other!
If Helen and Dave were there, I’m sure they could figure out someway to download Sergio into the brain-dead Alt!Sergio on life support, then drop him into the Biomass.
Love teh parallel here. One Sergio joined asig in hopes of making sure his invention was used ethically, the other planned to join the biomass for a similar reason.
This is now officially the BEST written mirror universe story I’ve ever read or seen.
Thus do we see the paradigm of archetype and failed archetype (or ectype) in action.
Artie has, dating back to Narbonic proper, sworn he is the good one. But in every circumstance worth noting he was the trigger point of the worst situations the team found themselves caught in — and more than once those trigger points started because Artie wanted something for himself. Companionship, if nothing else.
Now, at the end of the world, Sergio is prepared to sacrifice what he has left to potentially save what’s left for others… and Artie isn’t actually prepared to sacrifice his own happiness to do so. In fact, he was willing to effectively kidnap the Skin Horse team from the unMirror Universe so he could have a Sergio back.
Sergio — at least, Mirror.Sergio — is a hero. He’s Good.

I never said twisted was a bad thing!
So why can’t Mirror Artie and Mirror Sergio join the biomass as it is? Why bring in our Sergio?

*how we know now. Silly one-letter-off words!

No, Artie’s plan is apparently that he and the Sergios enter the biomass together and become joined for eternity.
Didn’t he bring them to attract the biomass?
Wouldn’t Sergio and Unity cancel each other out?
Sacrifice is sending yourself into doom for the greater good. Twisted is sending a bunch of other people into that doom who hadn’t any idea what they were getting into. See, there is a difference, Artie.
That’s pretty much my thought. There’s a big difference between volunteering someone to do something and telling someone else they must do it.
Then again the plan wouldn’t work anyway. Your talking about a possible ethical moral vs an insane monster. even if the ethical boost might work you would still be out weighed by all the unethical monsters, peoples, mutants… and mad scientist.
Not a lot in his favor for the plan.

Artie should know that from his experience with them…unless That Artie has no connection with Narbonics…
So far it sounds like they did send mirror!Sergio into the Biomass, and that’s how they got where they are.
No, Alt!Sergio was vivisected by razor carrots while transmitting video back to St Charlie.

It’s no good giving it a sense of ethics – it’ll still go around enveloping things, it’ll just feel guilty about it.

Artie… is at the end of the day still Artie.
