I thought that mission was intended as the larger story arc over which all the other Skin Horse story arcs had been arcing, at least since Tip’s awesome tailored suit.
… any human who prefers to shoot NHSs is currently one Anasigma recruiter away from being allowed to do that with impunity, because the reality filters effectively cover up their actions as well …
This.^ I submit that, barring Mr. Green and his employees, most humans are not interested in killing non-human sapients just on principle. The old “Don’t bother us, and we won’t bother you.”
I feel like Nick is awfully hard on humans given how he WAS one for (presumably) the majority of his life. And given how much the psychology of human-made sapients resembles that of their progenitors, if humanity is that awful, I’m not sure how much better it would be in the long run for non-human sapients to have their own place.
I’m as human as anyone, and yet I’m no less hard on humans than Nick is.
We’re overall a bunch of miserable, violent, psychopathic apes. All of our worst vices are the product of evolution run amok – our closest genetic neighbors, chimpanzees, share all our worst vices: lying, cheating, stealing, bullying, tyrannical rule by fear, rape, murder, torture, and even warfare. We’re hormone fueled little balls of rage, cowardice, greed, and pettiness.
Sure, a good number of us humans have learned how to suppress those instinctual tendencies, and endeavor to be decent, kind, generous, patient, reasonable beings that are happy to live and let live, to respect others and be respected in turn. But for far too many of us – if not outright most of us – we are still just angry, selfish, neurotic little apes who will do whatever it takes to gain power over others and abuse it to serve our own shortsighted interests.

“Humans for the most part don’t have a clue. They don’t want one or need one, either. They’re happy – they think they a… good bead on things.”
“Well, why the big secret? People are smart, they can handle it.”
“A person is smart. People are dumb, panickly, dangerous, animals, and you know it.”
Gee, D. Walker! Don’t hold back – tell us how you REALLY feel! 😉
While I have several friends who share a faith in humanity which can charitably be described as “dismal” (one of whom is among the few I’d trust with a Green Lantern power ring), I prefer to distinguish Nature vs Nurture.
Consider Pa Kettle. Can anyone imagine him starting a war? LAZINESS, my friends! That is the key to Peace On Earth!
Similar to the secret of a happy marriage as revealed by Celeste Holm to Sandra Dee in the 1967 film “Doctor, You’ve Got To Be Kidding!“: treat your husband like a dog, for most men are content so long as they are well fed and get their bellies scratched occasionally.
Dominator culture will return to a Partnership model as soon as “Santa Claus Machines” allow returning to an economy of plenty.
Heh. The t-shirt could also be seen as representing Nick’s lack of faith in humans – Thanos, after all, was sure people people could not be trusted to manage their own reproduction.
One of the disadvantages of visibility…
Sweetheart’s remark in panel 4 is pithy, scathing and – ah – accurate!
But I love Tip’s optimistic outlook and genuine desire to solve what he sees as the problem.

Getting to choose between being a target and being collateral damage hits pretty close to home.

You beat me to it. That was exactly the movie line I was going to quote.

Please no… not the puppets!
Reality filters are there. The gang from old Skin-Horse does care. They’ll go off and get her so humans aim better. Anasigma’s foot soldiers, beware!
Idealism is running up against cynicism. Someone will go splat. The fun is seeing who.
So Is no one else going to shout-out Nick cosplaying as The Thanos-Copter?
Nope, didn’t even notice until you pointed it out. It’s those little details that bring a smile to one’s face. Many thanks to Our Esteemed Authors.

I must say, panel 3 could serve as a poster for almost any assertion. I would love to see it as a magnetic poetry slate!
