Does the rule that creations of mad science always turn against their creators apply to work-for-hire situations? Like, since HT commissioned the turtles, would that be the expected eventual result even though he didn’t create them directly?
That, plus H.T. doesn’t really have friends as such, at least not that we’ve seen. He just has people he uses. Some are more like allies and some are more like minions, but either way he keeps them around only insofar as they are useful to him, or only insofar as he can dupe, intimidate, or coerce them into being useful.
The obvious question here is, why is he asking instead of just eating? Maybe he wants to be convinced not to? Or he’s just kind of monologuing, I hear that’s a common danger for evil overlords.
I’m still going with HT does still need Renard’s political and economic acumen, and he can only afford to give him any kind of autonomy within the Collective if Renard joins willingly.
Anyone who tries to force you to do something against your will, claiming that it’s “for your own good” or that you’ll be “better off”, is lying to you.
I take it their relationship is at an end.
F*ck him up, murder-turtles.

I thought it was one of the opossoms, maybe Tony, who created the turtles, and H. T. just found them and commercialized them.
I thought he actually commissioned them. Anyone feel like trawling the archives?

Panel 1
“One of the opossum scientists made them. I saw potential.”

Wow he’s really winning him over with those veggie tongues.
I like you, Moe. My sentiments exactly. Tear his crispy behind into salad. Release the turtles!
Oh, dear! Renard is really in a pickle! Or maybe he is the pickle.
More like a baked potato. You don’t foil wrap pickles.
This may seem like a harsh way to treat an old friend, but we must remember H.T. has been promising to eat his minions for a long time.
It would be amusing if the turtles are immune to the biomass!
It would be even more amusing if the biomass turned out to be ideal turtle food.
I have to wonder now if they reproduce quickly.
+1

Indeed.

Maybe if he asks nicely first and Renard says yes, it makes the assimilation easier?

If he wants Renard to join him willingly, then why would he be acting like this?
That’s not what I said. I said HT is trying to convince Renard to join willingly, and he still has way too much confidence in his own charisma.
“You guys always drag things out when you’re savoring an evil plan.”

RELEASE THE MURDER TURTS
“And then HT was stepped on by a wandering building.”
Let us but hope.
“I shall consume you whilst flavouring your succulent flesh with mine own parsley.”
“We are the biomass. Your diversity will add a subtle but piquant nuance to our own.”
Worst. Mulch breath. Ever.
yikes!! would not want to be him right now. that would creep me the fuck out!!!!
H. T. or Renard?
Last panel: the tendrils of plant matter coming from his mouth are definitely giving H.T. a Lovecraftian vibe here. Not the best recruitment picture.
H.T. sounds remarkably similar to when Ira was trying to convince Virginia that she’d be better off as a brain in a jar.
“You’d be better off with us.” Pretty much everything I’ve really enjoyed didn’t leave me “better off.”
Anyone who tries to force you to do something against your will, claiming that it’s “for your own good” or that you’ll be “better off”, is lying to you.
You know what HT needs? Marinade.
