So the Crown works on AIs? And Lovelace still has no problem with giving it to Whimsy??? O_O
This isn’t dislike for humans in her case then. It’s merely the fact that she’s been around Sparks for too long and has absorbed their fecklessness! 😛
As they say in the movie, “In place of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen! Not dark, but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Treacherous as the sea! Stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me, and despair!” – Galadriel
Which of them are you picturing giving that monologue: Aimee, Lovelace, or Whimsy? Because honestly, each of them would have the perfect time to do so.
They’ll demand Nick, save-clone!Nick, and the Baron act as a panel to judge who delivers the speech best and give all copies of the crown to the winner.
So… Aimee needs to fall in love with an attractive Korean semi-mad scientist, get her consciousness transplanted into a military helicopter, and then get recruited to work for the Shadow Government as a civil servant?
This seems like the correct response. I think somewhere in the SCP Foundation Archives there are entries about mind-altering entities which make themselves impossible to remember.
That sounds… oddly familiar, but… Oh wait, it’s that thing that’s… no, I thought I had it. Well, whatever it is, I know it’s not round. Hmm… maybe some sleep will help?
That’s OK. It’s not currently activated- according to the log book, I went down there to make sure yesterday. And the day before. And every day last week, for some reason.
I hope it is an error, as it really messes the chapter archive link up. They have done the “title changes on Monday but the chapter changes mid-week” thing before, but this doesn’t feel that much like the build-up to something dramatic. They’re going to have to sort something out with Aimee and with Whimsy, and that takes time.
Yes, uploader spaz confirmed. Fixed now. Sorry, I’m doing this on mobile from Seattle and I’m out of my usual groove (inasmuch as I even have a groove since the upload is usually Shaenon’s wheelhouse).
I don’t recall Nick appearing as a Whimsy-fied V-22 Osprey outside of Whimsy’s VR project before. Did Lovelace make him look like this during their meeting?
I was clear on them being in VR (because that’s the way they interact with Lovelace), but I didn’t think it was the Whimsy VR because of Baron not turning all majestic.
I can’t help but wonder if, because Lovelace has the crown, she made him look like a cute cartoon Osprey rather than his old human body because then she wouldn’t be distracted by her attraction to it.
They’re in the “real” Whimsy VR; the Baron has his usual form because he’s a Whimsy creature whose animatronic body is his normal avatar. It was in the Dark Whimsy sim that the Baron appeared as a “real” unicorn, while Nick got forced into human form.
Or… they could rescue the AIs by relocating them to another server. But, Aimee might not want to live like a refuge. And, who would be mad enough to keep a server handy with that much available capacity?
“Because if you’re not listening, I can make you listen. Because I can do anything. As from this moment there’s no such thing as free will in the entire universe. There’s only my</i< will, because I possess the Key to Time.”
I don’t think Lovelace is being evil. I think she’s more likely to be putting the Plan that she and Aimee cooked up while the boys were away.
Alternatively, she might be saving Aimee against her will. But still with a Plan.
As far as relocating Aimee, that would be the number one goal of the Daughters of the Air, surely? They’ve been around for a while (first mentioned in Nick’s old Blog, I think, which was many years ago) and I expect they have resources.
And this is where the difference between organics and AIs comes out. Nick wants to rescue Aimee, but not at the cost of her self-actualization. Lovelace (who really should know better) is only interested in rescuing her, with a monomaniacal focus on the end goal, and is willing to remove her free will if she is unwilling to let herself be rescued.

Or she’s already produced an antivirus.

Each of them in turn? Or will it be a cage match with only one winner?
They’ll demand Nick, save-clone!Nick, and the Baron act as a panel to judge who delivers the speech best and give all copies of the crown to the winner.
Go on, Nick, keep drawing parallels with your own case. Eventually you’ll realize what saved your life might be able to save hers too.

Sounds good to me!
Lovelace. You’re being evil. I know you were programmed for it, but stop it.
Is it evil, but is it genius?
The genius is optional. She just adds more servers.
Just use the crown on Whimsy instead, to convince them to leave the sim running.

The thing that isn’t round? Are we sure that we even have one of those?
Wait, what am I saying? Of course most SCPs aren’t round. What was I talking about?
Reminder that we don’t have an SCP-055.
“Chapter: Skin Horse”
Hmm. Is that an error, or are things about to get real?
I was wondering when we’d have a name drop chapter.
‘Does it hurt?’ asked the Rabbit.
‘Sometimes,’ said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ‘When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.’
Only the last two comics are labeled that–the rest are “Fun for Some”. My guess is error?
It wouldn’t be the first time a chapter changed mid-story (Dead Dogs, for example).

It wouldn’t’ve hurt anybody to read this from the beginning.
Sorry I missed your visit to Seattle.
Well, it does kick back to the beginning of it all.
I don’t recall Nick appearing as a Whimsy-fied V-22 Osprey outside of Whimsy’s VR project before. Did Lovelace make him look like this during their meeting?
They logged back in to the VR, they’re back in Aimee’s apartment – but why didn’t Baron change back to his VR version, too? That’s the real question.
I was clear on them being in VR (because that’s the way they interact with Lovelace), but I didn’t think it was the Whimsy VR because of Baron not turning all majestic.

Where’s an erupting VR Yellowstone volcano when you need one?
And a coal seam to set it off?
Or… they could rescue the AIs by relocating them to another server. But, Aimee might not want to live like a refuge. And, who would be mad enough to keep a server handy with that much available capacity?
Hm! That leaves open the question of whether they would rather trust Dave Davenport or Madblood? @_@

Messed up the tags, darnit.

I have no doubt she has a plan. I also have no doubt that not all plans are good ones. >_>
