Acronym! Acronym!
If you give any word to him,
He will write, no delays,
Quite a proper, fitting phrase!
Jump back!
Wow, what an ac-ro-nym!
Winter, spring, summer, fall,
He’s the handwriting on the wall!
He can read, he can spell,
He can damn his flaws to hell!
To him,
Life is an ac-ro-nym!
She will write some more
’Til her fingers get cramps!
Using words bizarre
That would stump Scrabble champs!
Acronym! Acronym!
Try to stump him, the odds are slim!
What a fight! Come and see
A.I. versus Violet Bee!
We’ll see
If she’s a Bee of spelling!
Now give a cheer, we’re yelling
Yelling for AC-RO-NYM !!
The question today is, since Violet Bee is (presumably) a non-organic sentient, can she perceive G.O.D.O.T.’s controlled pareidolia? That is, read the writing on the wall? Or does she only see the letters she wrote, thus requiring the services of Dr. Lee or Sergio to communicate?
This comic brings to mind Henry Kuttner’s comedy, sci-fi short story “The Proud Robot”. I’d provide a link, but it seems to be one of those things that’s aggravatingly hard to find (for free at least) on the internet.
So perhaps Violet Bee is going force GODOT to constantly create acronyms until it gives up and lets them in?
Like a lot of good science fiction, “The Proud Robot” is actually available in legitimate, non-pirated e-book form. It may not be free, but it’s only 99 cents. Try this link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Proud-Robot-ebook/dp/B0073V0630
If someone wrote PERL, would it expand it to (a) Practical Extraction and Report Language, (b) Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister, or (c) something else? 🙂
Better still, see if giving it a recursive acronym confuses it – try the GNU HURD for size 😀
GNU = GNU’s Not Unix!
HURD = HIRD of Unix-replacing daemons.
HIRD = HURD of interfaces representing depth.
Just thought… since GODOT is spelled entirely in capitals, maybe it’s an acronym… and if it isn’t (yet), see if it can compile a backronym for itself 😀
And the deluge begins.
…standard paradox attack, with a modified GNU recursion gambit maybe? “PINTA Is Not This Acronym”?
Nah. Probably something more subtle.
Suddenly picturing GODOT as a disgrunted GhostWriter.
Give it “Nanobot-powered undead supersoldier called U.N.I.T.Y.”. I bet that’ll go down well. Reaaaaaally well.
Wait, that was GODOT doing the writing!!
Let’s see… Next comes “I have a device to force GODOT to comply with our demands. This is the name I picked for it.”?
No the next thing is a device to increase her girlness, titled TIP
(TUNE: Theme to “Spider-Man”, Harris & Webster)

Scrabble champs as scrabble cramp for some reason. Made the whole thing much funnier for some reason. I need help.
Quick! Somebody write U.N.I.T.Y. on the wall!

I’m willing to bed GODOT has methods.
Either way, this was a pretty clever method that Violet used. 🙂
I was just wondering the same thing. Totally different mechanism required.
Actually, we know the answer. Reviewing the strip, Violet Bee saw the writing on the moon.
No, Sergio saw the writing on the moon. We only assumed that all three of them could see it.
I’m here from one strip in the future! …the answer’s no, she can’t 😛
It’s NOT a perfect acronym, it has an ampersand in it. It’s pretty darn good, though. 🙂
And what’s wrong with an ampersand? (I’m rather partial to them.)
Indeed; “et,” like “and,” would be dropped from most acronyms.

Just read through the entire archives over the past three days or so (phew).
Dr Lee mentioned half of UNITY’s acronym in one of the old strips, but I can’t remember where. Something Unified Necrotic … something.
(Not to find her acronym, mind–just because I was new to the comic. Great stuff!)
I wasn’t Dr. Lee, it was Violet. http://skin-horse.com/2010/todays-comic-299/

Yes, I’ve heard of Gnus.

Gnus to you, too!

GODOT: Genetic Organism Designed Only for Thought — that was revealed back at the start of the storyline.
