“Unity did not kill 100% of the non-main cast people in this comic. Which ones remain alive is left as an exercise in speculation, or perhaps for future storylines.”
Got a question here: Nigel is a EU transfer, right? So would that mean that all skin horse stuff happened worldwide, but battles were only fought on US territory? Are other non-american people already on board? Picked up later? Let where they are for a spin-off (I’m all for a cambodgian social black op comedy)?
Canada is in America, Moustachio has been acquired… Dr Lee is… (cough)… sane so supposedly not affected by Ira’s bigotry.
But frankly
I’d settle for a Butanese spin off.
Anything.
Even Luxemburg, and I don’t even like Luxemburg.
It’s reasonable to assume that there are Non-Human Sapients all around the globe. While Ira’s efforts appeared to be focused on the USA, news of the turmoil, as well as news of the arriving spacecraft, had no doubt reached the foreign agencies similar to Skin Horse.
That raises new question about theses agencies.
Since it’s social service, that would mean it exists only in countries where 1- social service is implemented for humans 2- civil servants are a thing (private would be bought by Anasigma) 3- funds for social service aren’t totally derailed for other people’s profit.
+ Is there a social black op net?
I’m inclined to think there must be equivalent agencies in other countries to deal with the non-human—well, I’d say “threat” but that leads to Ira—maybe “problem,” if they’re a problem. MI7? Dobutsukeisatsu? Komitet Po Zaschite Zhivotnykh? (Yes, I used Google Translate to come up with those last two.)
There’s nonhumans we remember
All the time, though some are strange.
Some were clever, others better,
Some are gone, and some complain.
All these one-shots had their moments,
The robots and plants we still can recall
Some are zombies, some are living,
In this strip we loved them all.
But with all these angry mothers,
There were always compares and clues.
And our memories had no meaning.
There was always hope of something new.
Though we know worry ‘bout infection,
From people and things that went before,
You know we often moaned and bitched about them.
In this strip, we loved them more.
Though we know we’ll never lose affection
For comics and strips that went before,
We know we’ll be remembering about them.
In this strip, we loved them more.
In this strip, we loved you more.

I have five pet ferrets. Just the IDEA of them being able to zoom around on little jet-packs make me want to hide under the couch. And talk? They would never, ever, *ever* shut up. I love them, but NO. OH GODS NO.
I do not have a ferret, but some friends of mine did. Based on those interactions, I’d be right there under the couch with you if the got anti-grav devices.
My take on “expanded universe” is somewhat different. I am imagining numerous technological civilisations throughout the visible universe all inventing anti-gravity, and exploiting it full tilt (so to speak) for fun and profit. The resulting distortion of the universe’s gravitational field is what we call “dark energy” – because we don’t know any better.
The characters keep multiplying. Here’s Nigel, the ferret that’s flying. They just appeared briefly, but now they’re just chiefly a narrative unedifying.
The strip appears to be reaching its end and I’m sad to see it go, if there is going to be an expanded universe I’d love to get to know what more and yes I’m aware of the previous comic having read it in its entirety
*uproarious laughter*
…..wait, I thought Unity ate him or something, just like the rest of the other half of the old skin horse staff.
When did they say that?
It was a reader’s mail strip

“Unity did not kill 100% of the non-main cast people in this comic. Which ones remain alive is left as an exercise in speculation, or perhaps for future storylines.”
From the author comments under the strip.
To be fair, if you haven’t seen someone in a while, it’s not unreasonable to entertain the idea that Unity may have eaten them.
And here I assumed that he’s been introduced but I didn’t remember him. Weird seeing Shaenon and Jeff’s wiseguy striaghtman dynamic switched.
He was mentioned as one of the earlier Skin Horse members, a coworker of Sweet Heart’s before Unity turned up.
Wait what? When did he show up?
He actually appeared in one of the bonus stories in the print collections.
Well you’re already one up on the Universal and DC expanded universes: your first entry is actually good.
^this! 🙂
…That panda in the first panel looks familar. Genma? Is that you?
I would have thought that the Nerima martial artists technically count as human. 😀
His eyes are wide open, Genma usually has half-lids or squints.
Looks like he got glasses.
Remember the storyline about Sweetheart’s rampage?
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. The panda’s name was given as “Lim-Lim” in this strip here.
I’m thrilled – THRILLED I say – to hear about an “expanded universe”!
…looking back at that art, knowing what’s known now.
Non-zero chance Sweetheart had an unaware crush on Agent Blue.
Ah, yes, it’s good to see Nigel again.
Bwahaha! Marvelous!
Probably went to work for the Department of Jetpack Suppression. (Is that Claire Connelly in the line?)
I also see one of the Killbots, as well as one of the mushrooms from the basement.
But I don’t recognize the pink elephant on parade.
Thought it might be one of the Whimsey World denizens, but I couldn’t find it on a quick look through their storylines.

Sweetheart is Canadian. Moustachio is British. Dunno if Dr. Lee was born in the USA or Korea.

Oooh! This tees us up for the inevitable Nigel-Kiki/Narbonic-Sluggyverse crossover we’ve all been promised!
I said inevitable and promised! That makes it canon!
I have five pet ferrets. Just the IDEA of them being able to zoom around on little jet-packs make me want to hide under the couch. And talk? They would never, ever, *ever* shut up. I love them, but NO. OH GODS NO.
And the fact that you still have your five pet ferrets after all these years makes it that much more believable that Nigel is still around.
I do not have a ferret, but some friends of mine did. Based on those interactions, I’d be right there under the couch with you if the got anti-grav devices.
I’m still waiting for Godot to come back. Likely too cautious to fall for Lovetron hijinks though.
In “Waiting for Godot,” Godot never arrives. Oops! Spoiler warning!
He changed his name to Gadot and became Wonder Woman.
(Sincere apologies to Gal Gadot – I know it was a lame joke)

That is simultaneously and awesome and terrifying idea, and would make a great comic series.
Bravo, Bathymetheus! I concur with awgiedawgie – awesome hypothesis!
Yikes, nice one. I haven’t heard that as a plot point yet amazingly. I third the concurrence with awgiedawgie :p

Jeff’s only making plans, for Nigel
He only wants what’s best for Skin-Horse
Sweetheart she recognizes Nigel
Nigel zweeps in with a ‘Cheerio’
And if Channing says Nigel’s canon
He must be canon
He must be canon
He must be canon, in this world…
The cast is saying hi, to Nigel
Even though Shaenon questions him
It’s time to say farewell, to Nigel
Nigel the ferret is here at the end.
And if Channing says Nigel’s canon
He must be canon
He must be canon
He must be canon, in this world…
(Tune: “Making Plans for Nigel”, written by Colin Moulding, performed by XTC)
Now THAT was a Brick Joke!
