Hmm, I’d think that some of his thought processes would have to be cybernetically enhanced, or at least supported. If you think about the complexities of flying an aircraft that with today’s machines have many computer systems to help control and he’s controlling all of those with thought….
Lotta not-quite-thought processes and processors in the nervous system, reflex actions and subconscious observations that wouldn’t be in the brain and/or would get hacked out/replaced by anything good enough to make a brain-in-a-jar in the first place.
Also, why do they always say, “or” when it’s clearly “and”?
If you’re referring to my “or”, considering the meaning, the usage is correct.
As to “thought”, I was referring to everything the brain does as a whole. Sorry I didn’t make a longer post to break everything down. But really, a lot of the subconscious “reflex actions” and others are learned behaviors which Nick did not have the time to go through. Thus, it makes sense for his brain to be cybernetically enhanced, or at the least, supported.
(TUNE: “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”, Simon & Garfunkel)
When in misery,
Feeling low,
Then Doctor Ru-da-ry
Comes to say hello!
When hopes are thin, grin,
Say, “Deal me in!”
You’ll take this chump to class!
Playing bridge with an undead doctor
Helps the time to pass …
You’ll play bridge with an undead doctor,
You can bet your *ss!
When your girl walks out,
When hope fades,
And when you’re goal’s in doubt,
Just finesse your spades!
When things are tough, bluff,
Then ruff-and-sluff!
You’ll make an overtrick!
Playing bridge with an undead doctor
Might seem kinda sick …
Playing bridge with an undead doctor
Shows what makes you tick!
Cybernetic mental capabilities aren’t the issue here. More to the point, what kind of sensors does Nick have? Could a sufficiently high-res visual sensor see the reflection of the Doctor’s cards in his eyes? Can milimeter-wave radar at close range read the iron in the inks on the black cards?
This is science. A magician’s illusions is based on physics, and a con-artist’s techniques is based on psychology. So the fleecing that ensues will be based on sound and proven principles.
I believe you need 4 people for bridge, yes? So who else will be playing…
No, you merely need four hands. (rimshot)
They appear to have only two between the two of them, though.
Depends on what the doc has in his betting stash.
It would appear that two handed bridge is viable…

The real question is, just how badly is Nick being hustled or is this just social? o_O
To judge by this…

…or whether Unity’s unpacked her spares yet.
Bah!
Everyone knows real zombies play spades.
“Bridge: it’s not just for trolls!”
What about Poker? (Then again, it’d be just his luck ending up with “Aces & Eights”…)
Spades is for losers. Real undead play whist, where there is no bidding and among serious players, speech is frown upon…
May be just my sleep addled brain, but is there something in the name “Dr. Rudary” that I’m just barely missing?
It’s me! It seems the Funky Mad Genius characters from the Volume 4 kickstarter are appearing 🙂
You’re in Skin Horse! Yea!
But you’re dead! Awww…
But you have lines! Yea!
Wow, now Shaenon is killing off cameos even before their first scene. What happens to you, I wonder? Parts fall off?
So died after being in tech.
You know, it really wouldn’t surprise me to find out the tech industry is vivist, too. It would disappoint me, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Woah! Hey, check the vivism. Seriously, 39 isn’t passed yet, but that doesn’t mean we can just spew stereotypes everywhere. Not frosty.
Nick’s mental facilities are Not cybernetic though,And the good doctor knows this. So yeah, he’s probably being hustled.

Science OR a scam? Silly Nick, it’s clearly one as a part of the other…

Don’t fall for it, nick! He’s only doing it to gage the tastiness of your brain!

Doesn’t Nick has cameras all over the inside of the chassis? He doesn’t need to look at reflections, he can read the cards directly.

I’m getting hustled but heft it: losing money to a zombie in bridge is the kind of day I’m having, and if it gets too bad I’ve got the sensors.
Bridge. Wow, he must have really pissed the good doctor off.
