The zombie girl just got a call
From Nick, the sweary cyborg flier …
He wanted to check in, that’s all,
Our health he wanted to inquire …
[CHORUS:]
”Unity, your arm’s on fire!”
Sweetheart sees the flames get higher!
Shouting like an old town crier,
”Unity, your arm’s on fire!”
She leaned against the candle flame
Which then ignited her attire …
Now why do people always claim
That common sense she might require? [repeat CHORUS]
In U.N.I.T.Y.’s defense, we have all entered into periods of deep concentration where we do not notice the world around us as much as we should. And her nerve tissue may have been degraded enough that she would notice the fire only as warmth on that side.
In U.N.I.T.Y.’s prosecution, however, no-one, no matter how dead, has been that deep in thought so as to ignore that kind of damage. Even the shamblers from Night Of The Living Dead reacted to the flames and light. Sheesh!
I was going to filk the Pointer Sisters, but then remembered the song “Fire” by Arthur Brown [along with Vincent Crane, Mike Finesilver and Peter Ker]
I am a dog of great sense, and I warn you:
Fire, your arm it will burn
Fire, your head you should turn
I see you burn!
You are strong but you have never learned
That you’re tough, but you have bits that burn.
Focus now your tiny mind,
How can you be quite so blind?
Don’t be careless or you’ll find
Flames will spread to your behind
Oh no, oh no, oh no, you’re gonna burn!
Fire can undo all your fun.
Fire might end all you’ve become
I see you burn!
Though you may be undead zombie girl
You still have to walk within this world
Focus now your tiny mind,
How can you be quite so blind?
Don’t be careless or you’ll find
Flames will spread to your behind
Fire, your arm it will burn
Fire, your head you should turn
You’re gonna burn…
You’re gonna burn, burn, burn, burn,
Fire…
tune: “I’m on Fire,” Bruce Springsteen
Hey, Unity, thought I’d give a call
I’ve been worrying ’bout y’alls, that’s all
I’m sensing a problem dire
Oh-oh-oh, arm on fire!
Hangin’ with cool Doctor Rudary
Took the trick ten times. It’s clear that he’s
A zombie I can admire
Oh-oh-oh, arm on fire!
Now Rudary’s gone, and he’s not the kind
To be flaky: he’s got a brilliant mind
So, hey, stay alert and be careful there
I fear danger’s lurking everywhere
And dark forces may conspire
Oh-oh-oh, arm on fire!

I did not realize until just now that the “slough” I’ve read and the “sluff” I’ve heard were the same word.

I would do They Might Be Giants’s “You’re On Fire”, but you really need to change one or two words for it to work.
Or, if you don’t want to change “head” to “arm,” you could use Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire” exactly as written.
In U.N.I.T.Y.’s defense, we have all entered into periods of deep concentration where we do not notice the world around us as much as we should. And her nerve tissue may have been degraded enough that she would notice the fire only as warmth on that side.

Unity is never deep in thought. She is frequently lost in thought, however, because it is such unfamiliar territory.
What’s happening to Nick? He has had lines in several strips now without a single swear override. That’s not like him.
(A) He’s begun using Crusty Old Man swears, so those aren’t censored, and (B) He’s gotten used to not swearing because of that [frolicking] filter.

We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!
Why are people always telling her to pay attention, or why are people always telling her that her arm’s on fire?
Ah, beat me to it. Knowing Unity, probably both.

Of course, I probably could also have posted “Hunk’a Burning Love” by Elvis instead, but this one just seemed more appropriate somehow… -_^
