14-y-o me is raging that I know enough about pop culture to understand this, and I just want to explain to them the joy of seeing other people enjoy stuff, whatever it may be; and I realized that the steps in figuring that out, for me, were:
1. read Narbonic (the second step would not have been effective without the first).
2. read and enjoy Shaennon being unapologetically enthusiastic about a wide variety of things in the Director’s Cut of Narbonic.
You normally have to crop the image anyway and reduce the number of pixels. You can change the orientation at the same time. Photoshop is good, GIMP is free, and there are a number of other packages you can use.
You’re talking about photo editors. They’re talking video. At the very minimum, you’d have to crop and re-encode the video, and probably also resize it to a standard resolution. No matter how you do it, you’re going to lose image quality. It’d be a lot simpler to just record it in widescreen mode to begin with.
Someday, someone is going to actually make a “big screen” movie, entirely in portrait mode. And it will be hailed as an edgy “breakthrough”, as most of the public grumbles about “kids ruining everything”.
Actually, human vision has a circular field of vision. You only think its landscape because you move your eyes in a horizontal path.
Actually, you only think that you are seeing things. The rods and cones in the eye send data to the visual cortices, which then sends abstractions to the temporal and spatial lobes. Your brain then interprets the resulting information as an image.
If you can follow that, we can move on to the sound of one hand clapping.
There goes Marcie’s unwritten and sexy friend fic about her boyfriend, Nick, and Girl Nick. She seems like a Chris Evans gal, but probably thinks that anyone who doesn’t consider D of I Chris the sexiest of all the Chrises doesn’t deserve to have non-canon smut scenes with him.

Thank you, Shaennon, for teaching me happiness.
Oh, that statement is not wrong. It’s a mighty close race, but Hemsworth is the sexiest of the Chris’s. Especially after Endgame. **wink, wink**
I’d have to see Aimee’s list of Chrises. None I can think of appeal to me that much.
I always thought Chris Evert was pretty hot.
Oddly enough, when I googled “celebrities named Chris” a list popped up, and she was the only female shown, along with about 30 or so men.
If you compile a list of Chrises, how does Topher Grace figure into it?
He doesn’t. He hated being called Chris, which is why he started going by Topher (the other half of “Christopher”).
And now I feel dumb for not realizing “Topher” was short for “Christopher”
Chris Messina is the sexiest Chris. Full stop. https://youtu.be/Gv4lFg7auGM
Indeed he is, Aimee. Indeed he is.
(The Baron is going to be *so* ticked off, lol!)
Hopefully they catch the expression on the Baron’s face when he sees the video.
You’re holding the camera wrong!!!
If the video is in focus, well-framed, and doesn’t shake, it’s all good.
No, actually, she’s holding the camera wrong…
Aspect ratio.
Vertical for tumblr (and sometimes TikTok).
Turn sideways for all other sites.
Or, to put it another way, use widescreen if you actually want people to watch it.

Luckily they now have TVs that can be rotated into portrait mode. Problem fixed!

Entirely in portrait mode, multiple cameras at a time, all held by the actors.
An upgrade to Hardcore Henry, which was filmed entirely with GoPros. But then, the aspect ratio there was widescreen.
It’ll be hailed as a breakthrough, but only 30 people worldwide will watch it.
Human vision is in landscape. It’s not just a matter of preference.

The sound of one hand clapping is imperceptible to almost any human’s hearing. I can hear sounds as low as 10Hz, and it’s below even my hearing range.
Unless of course it’s my one hand clapping, in which case, it sounds not unlike a bowl of Rice Krispies. My joints have had a rough life.
Hon, that’s what seeing things is.
So are the windups going to be able to settle down and live with the rest of the robot community?
Live with the rest of the community, yes. But they will always be a little too tightly wound to truly settle down.
Okay, that sounded funnier in my head.
I think it’s pretty good.

100% true statement there, Aimee!
