NigaiAmai Yume (nigaiamai_yume) says: The irony of a mechanical monstrosity of mad science renouncing “new-fangled technology” gives me the giggles.
Eric Burns (ericburns) says:
I had surgery at the state of the art (and glistening green crystal) Dartmouth-Hitchcock hospital a few years back. It was the tiniest bit like having surgery on Krypton or in the Emerald City.
One of the things that blew my mind? They transferred samples all over the medical complex by pneumatic delivery. Vials would be packed in cylinders, locked into chambers, and blasted six floors and a thousand feet away.
In their defense, they had very few decent reliable cogwork thinkers to explain the downside.
Sean O’Kelly (malakai47) says: yeah….. but that is still really really cool… I wish i had a pneumatic delivery system….
John Vertical (tropylium) says:
Love the frown in panel 3.
Also, according to WP “Pneumatic capsule transportation was originally invented by Phineas Balk in 1806”. If that’s “new-fangled technology”, how old is he anyway? Top hats were invented in 1797 so either he’s being hypocritical or has nothing against new-fangled fashion…

Ok, I probably shouldn’t be doing this, but…
AHAHAHAHA! I HAVE TRIUMPHED OVER AARON SHADES//PROF_TINKER! AHAHAHAHA! AHAHAHAHA!
*settles down in secret lair*
Minivet (minivet) says:
Often, when I was doing a clerical job at a hospital, I thought, “It would be so great if I could just shuttle these files around through pneumatic tubes instead of going up and down floors all the time.”
Someone explained to me the problem was that people didn’t monitor the tubes enough, so stuff piled up in the receiving areas.
Aaron Shades (prof_tinker) says:
Damn you, So it Begins! You have done no such thing!
I have recovored from your nefarious mechanizations, only to be confronted with a multitude of computer malfunctions.
But lo, I hath returned. MUAHAHAHAHAHAAA!
By the way, you all realize that this makes Mustachio everyones grandpa who can’t be convinced that things shouldn’t still be made with lead.
Also, Hitchhiker’s Guide reference in panel 2.
