Is it really any different to have seen a bunch of possible futures, as opposed to just imagining a bunch of possible futures? Either way, nothing is guaranteed, and depends entirely on the choices that are made now.
The difference is knowing which futures are actually possible, as opposed to wishful thinking or blocked by untoward events. E.g., “Nope, that ‘dream house’ is due to get eaten by mutant rabbits in 5 months”.
Jonah has a specific destiny targeted and has spent a lot of time mentally cataloging all the missteps to avoid.
Which is why I’m so fond of Max’s suggestion that Jonah may doom the future of everyone else to ensure his and Nera’s “Happily Ever After” comes about!
“So… how about we catch the Avengers movie and call it a date?”
“Wait, this is the future where we didn’t catch it before boarding the Black Ops helicopter? Dammit!”
That reminds me of Men In Black 3. One of the characters from that movie was also a precog much like Jonah, but from a different planet. I think. We don’t know too much of Jonah’s ancestry and I rule nothing out in the Narboniverse.
Some make plans, some merely stir the $h!t. What floats to the top is harvestable, ie, watch the targets whimper and squirm, meanwhile living in another ‘game’, your very own.
Personally, I don’t like drama in my own real life. And yet…. I hope Virginia ‘accidentally’ brushes up against her Boy, and makes him realize his manhood.
Please don’t make his ‘transition’ the result of a drug sequence. It’s funny but I opine that it’s a bad way to begin one’s sex life. Think ‘Pavlov’.
How does her tongue have the energy to stick out if she’s always making out? Or maybe she’s doing exercises for the NEXT makeout? She must have a REALLY STRONG tongue!
Wait… Jonah is taller than Nick? Granted, I didn’t have a clear mental image of how tall Nick is, but given his build I assumed he was about average or perhaps slightly greater than average height. Seeing Jonah and Nera next to each other, I always assumed Jonah was really short, but unless Nick is like one of those pygmy tribesman who looks exactly like a normal sized person scaled down, Nera must be fricking enormous
Nera is quite tall – I figure at least 5’10” – but I’m glad I’m not the only one who is surprised that Nick appears to be shorter than Jonah. I had a mental image that Jonah was maybe 5’4″ and Nick was about 5’6″. But judging from what we see here, it looks like Nick is closer to 5’0″.
JONAH’S a kid, kids. He’s grown a bit this recent year. Betcha he WILL be taller
than Nera soon. She’s a wow….completely a friend, a bud, and a lover. Lucky Jonah. Probably deserving from an alternate and heroic life? One never know, do one…(Pogo)
Most kids have reached their full height by the time they graduate high school, which Jonah and Nera did quite some time ago. Yes, he’s younger than my kids, so he’s still a “kid” to me, but he’s definitely an adult.
Not all kids, though. Some of use from “Methuselah” bloodlines (grandparents all made it to their 90s) finish our growth much later. While I was always a tall kid, I still gained an inch & a half of height in my 20s, and had to have my last remaining baby tooth pulled at 19 because the blasted thing refused to fall out on its own. My 7 year old daughter seems to be heading for the same growth pattern.
Granted, I did lose that extra height in my late 50s and am back down to my late teen height of 6’3″ so I guess it evens out over time…
Well, that’s why I said “most” kids. I went to high school with a guy who was 6’6″ when he graduated, and grew another inch by the time he finished college. My mom didn’t reach her full height (of 5’6″) until she was in her 30s.
I, on the other hand, got my height all at once. I was 4’8″ when I entered 9th grade, and grew 18 inches in 18 months. So I was nearly 6’3″ by the end of 10th grade. Another guy I went to school with reached his full height of 6’2″ before he was 12.
“Married 7 times” is not exactly a ringing endorsement for short men (and he was actually married 8 times). But then Hollywood almost seems to glorify divorce. Granted, only 6 of his 8 marriages ended in divorce, and his last one lasted 36 years (until his death), but still…
I’m pretty sure that’s the point. He’s commented before that he’s trying to hit the best future – he refused to start dating Nera at one point because it would mean they’d break up eventually.
And yet, the foreknowledge that he will figure it out eventually hasn’t helped him figure it out now. If it were truly logical, then as soon as he realized that he will figure it out, he would have at that moment figured it out. Not all that brilliant, in my opinion.
Part of living is just making day to day choices spontaneously. If Jonah is constantly checking to see what actions he needs to get the ‘good’ future, then he’s never really engaged in the NOW and is just living life according to his visions.
It’s like playing a video game by pausing every five minutes to check the game guide instead of just playing and enjoying the game.
Or like using cheat codes to advance to the next level. You may move ahead, but you haven’t actually learned anything from it, or achieved anything by it.
Is it possible, putting Nera with this guy, it could be possible.
Is it possible, five foot five with six foot high, it could be possible.
Can she hold him closer to her and not stop his way-too-fast plea?
Split the vision that he cannot see it through, oh, it is possible.
Can a notion slam and push him to the floor, it could be possible
If he had her, would she show him out the door, it could be possible.
Those tomorrows, with Nick prompting boy and girl, does Jonah get it?
If he doesn’t come across he will regret it.
Or they’ll live without their love,
It could be possible.
It’s possible…it’s possible…

Yeah, I imagine that “living in the now” is the complicated option, in this particular case.
“Living in the now” tends to be pretty complicated, no matter who you are.
Awareness of future self-awareness. An interesting feeling.
Try to figure out *one* future, Yu, and stick with that.

Mighty refractory powers! (Okay, yes, I *do* realize that refractory isn’t the right word here, but it sounded funny. Shut up. 😛 )
I assume you are using “refractory” in the Masters and Johnson sense, in which case it is exactly the right word.

Shaenon seems to have vacillated between 5’5″ and 5’6″ for Nick here: http://skin-horse.com/comic/2019-01-27/
Apparently Jonah is not as short as you thought, it’s just that Nera is really tall.
Hey, good memory! I knew I’d seen that somewhere. So Jonah’s more like 5’8″ and Nera’s closer to 6′.

Nera’s about six feet tall, Jonah’s on the short side of average, Nick is petite.
For Dr. Lee’s sake, let’s hope that refers to height.
For her sake, petite would still be better than enormous.
Mickey Rooney was 5’2″, married 7 times (starting with Ava Gardner) and lived to the ripe old age of 93…

Well, that quite literally puts things in perspective…
I’m pretty sure that’s the point. He’s commented before that he’s trying to hit the best future – he refused to start dating Nera at one point because it would mean they’d break up eventually.
Ah, broken replies. That was aimed at awgiedawgie.
It’s hard to tell how tall Nick is because his posture is appalling.
Yeah, I watch posture too. I predict Nick will stand tall and wide after Virginia’s
love for a week or so. He may be able to fly by flapping.
“I’ll figure that out eventually” might be the best bit of predestination logic that I’ve ever encountered.
I was just about to comment on that. Yeah, it’s pretty brilliant, even if he isn’t.
And yet, the foreknowledge that he will figure it out eventually hasn’t helped him figure it out now. If it were truly logical, then as soon as he realized that he will figure it out, he would have at that moment figured it out. Not all that brilliant, in my opinion.

I can definitely relate to Yu here and not realizing you don’t have a problem, even when all the evidence is right in front of you.
