Jeff named the coffee place “Ground Control,” but the name has never been fully visible in the ten friggin’ years we’ve been doing this comic strip. At least the owner appears clearly in this installment.
Ok, so I just dated myself by thinking it dated you.. I keep forgetting that Major Tom was kept alive by Bowie as well as other artists for decades in other songs.
Success . . . may be pushing it at this point. A decent amount of competence maybe. A firm desire that the weirdness blindness does not suddenly evaporate in the middle of the scheme definitely. Success would mean bragging rights, not a desire to drink away the memories.
Never mind put in a zoo, he’s asking to get shot. Which they really ought to be doing. He’s now gone past threatening mass-murder and is actually doing it, but something tells me they still won’t deal with him.
H.T. is starting to look more and more like a hostage to his own movement. ^o^
Yeah… exactly where is the line where you finally say that it’s just not worth the trouble?
Really, I think he crossed it a few arcs ago.
Where *are* they? Starbucks?
I’ve seen them refer to it a couple times as “the coffee place”, but I don’t know that they’ve ever said just which coffee place it is.
That’s it’s name. The Coffee Place. Run by The Coffee Company, slogan “We make coffee. Don’t ask us out of what.”
How about “We make coffee. You don’t want the details.”

Or was it an early test of the weirdness ignoring effect that prevents people from seeing the true name of the coffee place?
PLEASE tell me the owner’s name is Tom. And that he’s former military. **stares imploringly**
You’re dating yourself. That came out in 1969.
…Of course, the fact that I immediately knew what you’re talking about kinda dates me, too. :/
Hey, I got the reference and I’m not nearly old enough to have gotten it.
It doesn’t date anyone. I wasn’t even *born* then and I know exactly what you two are on about.
Ok, so I just dated myself by thinking it dated you.. I keep forgetting that Major Tom was kept alive by Bowie as well as other artists for decades in other songs.
Great. I have my earworm for today.
There’s no “Reply” button on this string. Just as well. Kept me from saying something insipid about dating oneself.
Can have worse earworms (like… a literal worm in your ear)
Worse thing about dating yourself: when they insist on going Dutch… >_>
Dress for success!

Not bad, but I think it needs swim fins.
I’m sure Shaenon and Jeff will get many suggestions about HT’s next outfit, and I like that one as a start.
Is that Caliban? He was planning to open his own coffee shop at some point.
Caliban has lighter hair, I think.
I don’t know… You might be able to call that a “dirty” blond. But yeah, I always imagined it was lighter, too.
As did I, but I’ve been in coffee shops with pretty dim lighting.
As did I, but I’ve been in coffee shops with pretty dim lighting. Could be he’s just not in one of the better-lit parts of the room.
At last, they’re going to be dealing with the important stuff.
By which I mean the story title clearly indicates Tip is going to do something about being stuck in a suit.
Tiger, Tiger, burning shame,
Rubber nose, and who’s to blame?
Who will chortle, who will die,
And who will misrhyme “symmetry?”
What insistent outlet mall
Earns the ires of them all?
On what things did this transpire?
Who’s the lackey he will fire?
When your smarts gave way to crime,
And slaughter’d seven at a time,
Made us smile, his face to see.
Did Reynard put it up to thee?
Tiger, Tiger, burning shame,
Played the nature of the game.
Who will chortle, who will die,
And who will misrhyme “Symmetry?”
—from William Blake.
Ha! Good one!
Yay, you!
Time to reread William Blake again. Thanks for the reminder.
“Did Reynard put it up to thee?”
I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about…
Falls under the heading “Crimes which are their own Punishments.”
Never mind put in a zoo, he’s asking to get shot. Which they really ought to be doing. He’s now gone past threatening mass-murder and is actually doing it, but something tells me they still won’t deal with him.
