You continue to rule, Eddurd. “Diploma/Oma-” is just genius. I’m reminded of one of Joss Whedon’s lyrics on the song-commentary to “Dr. Horrible”: “There’s internal rhyme/although not every instance…” Also, I didn’t want to intrude, as a stranger, but deepest sympathies.
Hold on; we know that Sweetheart is in a simulation, but when did that simulation leave reality? Mustachio is off in this robot battle without a doubt that his situation is real, but he spent a lot of time interacting with Sweetheart, who is in her own personal hell. Maybe when they were separated after entering the Facility?
The strip http://skin-horse.com/comic/while-unity/ has plenty of red flags (such as the drone’s frequency conveniently being the only unshielded frequency) suggesting that is where the simulation started.
I suspect that what Sweetheart has seen/done in the Institute has been a simulation since the drone arrived/she plugged in post-capture.
I SUSPECT she was still able to log out and rejoin reality until Nick tried jacking into the drone himself, since then she’s been entirely in the sim even when she thinks she’s communicating with the outside.
I would’ve thought Moustachio’s 19th century memory drums, updated to eight-track, probably preclude plugging him into any virtual reality scenario. I’ll go out on a limb and say his experience is for real. (As real as a comic strip experience can be.)
Okay, robo-littermates seems ridiculous even for this comic. Sure, the situation is less strange than a lot of the other ones in this verse, but “robo-littermates”? Who would call it that?
Well, if you’re using a Genetic Algorithm to evolve an advanced AI, then members of the same generation might be called ‘Robo-littermates’.
Or ‘Mortal Enemies’ because they still need to compete to see which one/s get to parent the next generation.
(TUNE: “Over There”, George M. Cohan)
Omaha! Omaha!
Causing pains
On the plains,
Omaha!
In that Midwest city,
His job’s not pretty …
An automated abattoir!
Hacking raw! Knife and saw!
It’s more grue-
Some than you
Ever saw!
He’s not cruel, now!
He’s gone to school now!
And he got his slaughter
Diploma, Omaha!

Mustachio – er, Ramshambler – and Sweetheart haven’t encountered each other since Anasigma snagged them at the mall, if I remember right.
Presumably the tracks diverged there.

Ramshambler seems to agree with you on this, judging by his expression in Panel 4.
is this going to end like another retelling of Aesop’s The Lion and The Mouse?
“Good sir, i believe you have a gear lodged in your teeth” *dislodges*
“OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH IT’S BEEN HURTING FOR THE LONGEST TIME!”
Even if it doesn’t go this way, I will always remember it that way in my heart. Wonderful idea!
Or will Moustachio organize Robot Solidarity?
If he can get Hullcrusher Prime to go on strike, they’d have a pretty strong bargaining position…
Trifling with Hitty’s feelings, huh, Moustachio? Big brother Hullcrusher Prime will take care of it…
I suspect the slaughterhouse resembles the “swirling knives” one from “Monty Python”… no need to assume it is for bovines!
It’s always awkward meeting the family. ALWAYS.
Hey, I say Jeff last week! He does good work!
Saw Jeb. Darn it.
See, Sweetheart’s whole dog thing would not be so weird among other Mads, who use terms like “robo-littermates”.
