It would seem that having three co-workers along on a date has its problems ^_^

Seconded, if this is Nick’s idea of a date let the two of them enjoy themselves.

Indeed, refraining from embarrassing their co-worker *would* be the decent thing for Tip, Unity, and Sweetheart to do in this situation. Which is why we can pretty much count on them not to do it.

On the other hand, you know perfectly well that if the roles were reversed Nick would be merciless. So, I’m not too broken up over the others teasing Nick a bit.

i love how flustered she is in panel 2. its stuff like that which makes the implied innuendo obvious.. otherwise it would just be “shop talk”.

Drat, I don’t have my copy of Watchmen here with me … wasn’t Nite Owl playing Ella Fitzgerald when he and Silk Spectre were joining the Mile-High Club?

In Watchmen it was Billie Holliday’s “You’re My Thrill”.

True, Nite Owl II was quite the Holliday fan–but I wouldn’t put it past Jeff and Shaenon to make Nick’s playing Fitzgerald a tribute to that Watchmen scene anyway. It seems like the sort of thing they’d do.

You just made me very glad Nick is too classy to pick the original Leonard Cohen recording of Hallelujah for this occasion.

(TUNE: “Lean On Me”, Bill Withers)

    Hi, welcome aboard!
    Please take a seat,
Now you can ride in me!
    As … upwards we soared,
    It’s kinda neat
    With you inside of me!

    Fly in me!
    I’m so enthralled!
    I’m gonna play
    Ella Fitz-ger-ald!
    How … happy I’ll be
    Flying today
    With you inside of me!

     Right now, I am trying
     To show that I’m best!
     I will try, yeah baby,
     I’ll fly you!
Some night, we could go out
     And punk off the rest!
     We could fly, and maybe
     Get high, too!

    Fly in me!
    I wouldn’t miss
    Letting you see
That I’m so good at this!
Now … from sea to sea,
    This is such bliss …
    Got you inside of me!

    Nope, it was Billie Holliday.

But Ella Fitzgerald did cover ‘You’re my Thrill’.

Unrelated to today’s strip: I was rereading the archive when I noticed that there was foreshadowing for the whole Violet thing more than 2 years before it even happened (and even 4 months before the character was even introduced!)

Just checked the link. Are you sure Dr. Lee isn’t a mad scientist?

Being evil, immoral and/or insane don’t necessarily imply having Hypercognitive Dementia (a.k.a Walton’s Disorder a.k.a Mad Genius); the term “Mad Scientist”, however, implies a science person who does have it. I’m not saying she’s not, I’m just saying only the authors know for sure at this point.

I think she has a new, Sane version of Hypercognitive Dementia. So she can’t warp reality, but she can still do things thought impossible. And that’s more dangerous, since what she does can be Replicated.
That, or she’s the reincarnation of someone particularly brilliant and has combined mind powers or something…

I hope its They All Laughed. What with the mad scientist undertones and all.

Actually, has that been on any of the soundtracks yet?

Much as I love Ella Fitzgerald, I would have gone with Sinatra, specifically Come Fly With Me

I don’t quite understand why she’d be surprised he’s good at flying, since his aptitude was the reason she selected him in the first place.

I think it’s less that, more that she’s so happy to see her creation achieve its purpose and realize its own potential.

That and being up in the air is always more exciting than just hearing about it.
