I just realized that Neera’s outfit has changed several times since November 24.
The paranoid part of me spies a hint that we’re seeing various timelines…
That aside, why is she wearing a Reynard medallion?
The only time we see Tip outdoors without the jacket was when he and Sweetheart rushed outside to see why the alarms were going off. And that’s undoubtedly because he was in too much of a hurry to put it on right away.
All the other times we see him without his jacket, he’s indoors. That thing hardly makes a fashion statement (unless that statement is “ick”), so he would only wear it when he has to. And for Tip, fashion is a far more believable explanation than alternate timelines would be.
This could be a case of Super Cell Reception, unless the ship has its own cell tower linked up through satellite. I don’t know exactly how far offshore they are, but the usable range of the average cell phone is less than 30 miles. And for a video chat between Nera and Jonah, the range would have to be a lot less than 30 miles.
Yeah, I know… they’re probably just using wi-fi anyway.
I am reminded (mainly because I’m reading the storyline right now) of when Dave went to the moon to destroy Madblood’s base, and he and Helen communicated via cell phone. That was definitely a case of Super Cell Reception.
Oh, I’m sure Madblood’s Moonbase had a fair amount of communications equipment. However, that doesn’t explain Dave’s cell reception while en route from the earth to the moon.
Sure, Dave could have designed his own ship with a cell/satellite link, but since the ship had its own radio communications, there would have been no reason to add cell service, considering he designed the ship to be as energy- and space-efficient as possible.
God rest ye, Nera and Shelby,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Nick Zerhacker and Jonah,
Were not blown up today,
It’s not just wishful thinking,
Jonah says that’s he’s okay,
Oh, wonder of iChat and Skype,
iChat and Skype,
Oh, wonder of iChat and Skype.
“Fear not,” said Nera, for Shelby,
Had gone back in his brood,
“For I’m talking to Jonah now,
“And he says it’s all good,
“Also, I’ve a new outfit for
“Duct-hiding aptitude.”
Oh, wonder of quick-change heroes,
Quick-change heroes,
Oh, wonder of quick-change heroes.
I would think it would have been unloaded shortly after they had landed on the Habakkuk. It is, after all, Shelby’s car. And they probably would have needed to unload it before starting the repairs to Nick’s shell, even if only as standard procedure.
I’m sticking with my theory that they “destroyed” a false target produced by Nick’s countermeasures. From Wikipedia – “Most military aircraft and warships have chaff dispensing systems for self-defense”. As a highly advanced aircraft, Nick may have been equipped with more-advanced countermeasures than that, and Jonah’s warning gave him a chance to use them.
And if Nera did hack into Cerebriac, she could have hidden Nick’s radar signature from the computer after it falsely indicated that he was destroyed, thus preventing further attacks.
From Oct 2 to Oct 9, Neera was wearing the blue shirt with the target on the front (a nasty bit of foreshadowing? Too soon to tell), then switched to the black shirt and purple jeans. Probably not time foolery, she was going on a trip.
This outfit lasted until Nov 6, when a yellow coat got added to it. Not likely time foolery, she’s on a ship, on the upper deck.
This lasted until Nov 24, when she switched to a purple outfit, changed her earrings too. This was just after she began trying to hack AG-I. I see no logical reason for the change, but its not impossible, and there was no obvious danger which might result in a time jump (unless we’ve been getting an achronic ordering thing, jumping timelines when the, ahem, jumping event happened later in the timeline).
This outfit remained (with or without yellow rainjacket) until Dec25, notably *after* she had already planned to jump into the ducts. So either she brought a change of clothes into her Die Hard place, or there was a jump. Eek! Also >:)
I talked a little about that above. My guess is that Nera is using wifi on the ship, which would be linked up via satellite. Although the ship may also have its own cell tower (which would also be linked via satellite). And because Nick is a much more modern and state-of-the-art military aircraft, I’m sure he has a lot more communications equipment on-board than even the ship has.
I don’t know about that; normally the larger something is the more equipment you expect it to have. And the ship isn’t outdated, it’s advanced enough to fool Nick’s sensors.
AG-I undoubtedly brought a lot of equipment on board, including whatever device shielded them from Nick’s scans. But the ship itself was designed during WWII. It is very much outdated.
But those of us who have to live though it *like* ruined drama! ^_^
So he’s not dead. I was afraid of that all along.
Your fears were not in vain.

That aside, why is she wearing a Reynard medallion?
It just goes with the outfit?
Maybe it’s a flash drive.
There’s no such thing as paranoia in the world of fan theorizing!
Shapeways order arrived.
Alternate timelines would explain Tip sometimes in a foul weather jacket and sometimes not.
The only time we see Tip outdoors without the jacket was when he and Sweetheart rushed outside to see why the alarms were going off. And that’s undoubtedly because he was in too much of a hurry to put it on right away.

I like how it took Nera comment on her outfit for anyone to notice. We’ve gotten slack.
So is he in wifi range, or is Nick racking up a frogurt of satellite charges?

Not service!

You think Madblood would have created a moon base without a microcell and satellite relay?
Either that or Dave has the same service provider as Hitomi Kanzaki.
Oh, I’m sure Madblood’s Moonbase had a fair amount of communications equipment. However, that doesn’t explain Dave’s cell reception while en route from the earth to the moon.

Most excellent work! Double-plus good!
Hooray!
Hee!
If Jonah’s not dead, then what target was destroyed?
What was destroyed was the non-existent target that Nera led AG-I’s computer to believe was destroyed after she hacked into the system. Nera rocks!
Or maybe Cinderblock has just hit the targeting computer so many times that it no longer works
What about that flying that that was on Nick? Was it still in there after Nick took off?

The Hubble Telescope.

Perhaps she has a purse of holding that has space for spare outfits. 🙂
How is there coverage way out in the boonies of the ocean? Maybe Nick (and the carrier) have some kind of satellite coverage each?
