Oh she’d get on so *well* attached to Foot. They have exactly the same, ah, general approach to life.

I think Foot and Hitty would be kindred spirits.

I’ve pretty much given up on Foot appearing here

…which probably means he’ll appear right when we least expect him

Exactly. The one rule of both Skin Horse and Narbonic is that Shaenon never forgets anything, especially not anything that can be used to increase the lunacy quotient. (Or if she does, she covers it up really well.)

I’d say it’s more like two rules.

            1. Absurdity works very well.
            2. Absurdity combined with nostalgia works even better.

Somebody get the robotic couch Tigerlily made.

Can’t. She made it from a Hide-A-Bed, and now nobody can find it.

That is remarkable self-awareness Sweetheart is demonstrating.

Great self-awareness, but lousy reasoning. We’ve always known they were nuts. That’s nothing new. But they were never having these nightmares before.

Indeed. Once is chance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action, and five is dedicated subconscious psychological warfare. I’m pretty sure that’s how that saying goes.

Not only that, but it’s not like they were all the same flavor of nuts before and even if you think it’s a symptom of their various crazy, now they are all suddenly sharing a common symptom. A doctor would assume that, since it’s affecting multiple people all the same way it must be external, most likely environmental.

Actually… if Leo — an organic creation — was getting the nightmares… why didn’t Sweetheart?

      March 25, 2020, 2:48 am | # | Reply

Maybe, because she already had that dream in the VR

The snake was getting it too. It seems to be affecting all non-natural NHSs. Yesterday and today it was speculated that Sweetheart is getting the nightmare, but either isn’t affected by it because it’s similar to her recurring dreams of Dr. Bram, isn’t affected by it because her relationship with Dr. Bram was such that him threatening to come for her is comforting, or is affected by it but is putting up a tough front.

I would assume Unity isn’t affected by it either because her creator is already there so the dream is meaningless, because she isn’t afraid of her, or because she’s not really afraid of anything.

That’s a decent theory on Unity, except, wasn’t Sweetdaddy’s creator Tigerlily?

          Sweetheart, not Sweet Daddy Jupiter.

Yes, Sweetdaddy’s creator is Tigerlily. But…
          A. Tigerlily isn’t there with them, and
          B. Tigerlily has been known to smash her creations if they weren’t funky enough for her, so there is a little room for fear there.

Perhaps Tip should go and poll the other denizens of the Habakkuk. And after he does that he can ask them about their dreams.

Have Sweetheart or Unity slept since they got there? Sure, one would think Sweetheart, being a dog, would have at least napped, but perhaps she’s currently running on nerves and caffeine.

You know, if Nick had a dream in which his creator said “I’m coming for you”, he’d probably take it very differently from everyone else here.

Nick *had* parents, you know. They created him: all Dr. Lee did is stick his brain in a helicopter.

          March 25, 2020, 6:23 pm | # | Reply

That’s like saying that I didn’t create a fine piece of furniture, because God created the trees that the wood came from.

The brain is just one of many components Virginia used to create the Nick that we have all come to know and love.

            March 25, 2020, 11:44 pm | #

Dr. Lee can have credit for inventing the Whirligig, or the Human-Brain-Controlled Helicopter. But she didn’t invent Nick, or the helicopter, she merely combined existing parts. (Whoever designed and worked on the Osprey presumably should get some credit, too.)

          • awgiedawgie
            March 26, 2020, 12:53 am | #

The Whirligig is Nick now. The Nick that was produced by his parents no longer exists.

Combining existing parts is kinda the whole idea of creating something. Tigerlily combined coathangers and created a teleporter. You don’t give credit to whoever made the coathangers, do you? When I build something, I don’t mention the people who manufactured the nails, glue, paint, etc.

You really want to give credit to the idiots who were with Virginia at Groom lake? The guys who blew up the break room and were terrified of VR ants?

So … is it significant that Sweetdaddy is speaking in a different font this week from the one he’s used in the past?
