Who knows, Cypress might be able to regenerate herself very quickly once her tree has been planted in an appropriate environment. Going by Awgiedawgie’s comments, Bitey might help her, er, infect the surroundings faster.
A-Sig was using the main swamp they had captured to propagate their own “child swamps” as a fear tactic. If I had my laptop handy I could look up the reference pretty easy. That was the only one we ever heard of, but who knows… they may have “planted” other ones as well. Unlike the daughter swamp in Louisiana, who had formed her own consciousness and split from her mother voluntarily, A-Sig’s creation had no consciousness, so it was just a mindless killing machine.
Unity, of all people, was the one who made the decision to not destroy the swamp in Colma. She saw a similarity between it and herself. Specifically, that it was just hungry. Any wild animal – sapient or not – if you take away all of its other sources of food, will start going after humans. Unity saw that, even if it wasn’t sapient, it didn’t need to die just because it was following its basic instinct to eat.
I’m wondering how she still has enough mental “moving parts” to use language. Maybe she’s not actually the plants, but something living in the plants like Unity and (in some ways) her subsapient offspring in Colma.
Very much so. We saw the daughter swamp in New Orleans animating zombies. It just appears to be a plant-based nano-goo, rather than… whatever Unity’s goo is made from.
I love that Tip is still wearing Bitey. And I have to wonder how that will become relevant in the near future…
Well, Bitey was once part of the cypress biomass, so the possibility of it being relevant is quite high indeed
There was this awhile back…

That was Mirror-Bitey. If he’s still alive (so to speak), maybe he’ll try to mate with this one. o_O
I’m going to pretend that wearing Bitey is step one in getting his style back.
Well, at least this makes evacuating her a bit easier.

Let’s give a shout out to “A Charlie Brown Christmas”!
Good grief!
…This angers me.
Looks like the results whenever I try to garden. 🙁
Maybe she could move in with her daughter.
IIRC, her daughter reassimilated herself back into Grandma Swamp back before A-Sig “relocated” her. So in effect, there no longer is a daughter.
Then who was that we just saw in Colma?

I’ll concede that we haven’t heard it speak, but surely if it wasn’t sapient, they wouldn’t have been so determined to rescue it?

The Cypress abides
Is it just me, or is Cypress’s dialogue balloon in panel 2 the same color as Tip’s, when according to panels 1 & 4 it should be slightly yellower?
Maybe she was feeling particularly pale in that panel. 😉

You know…this might be the first time Tip acknowledged another being’s need for self-affirmation.
Or at least a very notable one.
