OneUniverse: Despite any evidence to the contrary, Kate is The Man.
What I don’t understand is why Shelby isn’t doing more here. He was planning to meet this sea monster earlier, so he must know a lot more about it than we do (and possibly everyone else on the boat). I’d expect him to have some idea of what approach might calm the situation down a bit, now they’re beginning to run short of violent options.
You’re seriously telling me they don’t have any baseline-human support staff? Administrative roles? Handlers?
If not: find the loophole that lets Nera be Jonah’s backup
If so: I am… concerned… about AG-I’s workplace culture
By the example of their “Tech Gal” I would have to assume that they, in fact, do not hire humans as support staff. I can’t imagine how they have survived, as an organization, for more than about 7 minutes, really.
You’re being jobbed, Panoptica. The writers are in on it. They’ll probably have Nera ironically prove her skills during this conversation or something to make you look like a fool. Nonetheless, continue to stand fast for the integrity of the employment process and against nepotism. It’s not always pleasant to stand up for what’s right.
Also, I will stake my reputation as a detective who is 15 minutes late for everything but tee times that Cerebriac’s wonkiness has no deeper implications whatsoever.
I stake my reputation as a nobody on the internet who doesn’t have anything better to do but take up wagers on webcomic comment sections that THE EXACT OPPOSITE IS TRUE.
On the other hand, recruiting enhanced humans only isn’t necessarily the same as only recruiting the best fits for the job. I’d bet Nera’s hacking capabilities are a more useful skill than a number of the abilities of the enhanced humans in the organization.
If I make a organization and list “is male” on the list of job requirements, that doesn’t make rejecting females the right thing to do. It’s just prejudice, not recruiting the best fit for the job.
Kind of a reverse catch-22. By proving himself the kind of person who wouldn’t join AG-I, Jonah is exactly the kind of person they probably need going forward.
As the great Groucho Marx said once: “I don’t want to be part of any club that would have someone like me in it” (may not be an exact quote, but it’s close enough to pass as horse feathers)
Hmm. Who do we know with superpowers who can snark?
Usually the snarky-quip guy is also badass enough to get away with the snarky quips…
I heard Baron Mistycorn was looking for a job…
He also doesn’t fit the “enhanced human” descriptor, albeit for opposite reasons from Nera.
Unity might, depending on their exact definitions, except I think maybe the first mention of AG-I way back when was that they’d rejected her?
Does the ability to teleport via anger or mojo count as a superpower?
How about Tip’s, or Tigerlily’s mojo?

Hmm… Could this be where the curious matter of Nera’s maternity comes into play?

Our sympathies with Jonah and Nera do make it easy to overlook that Panoptica does have several legitimate points on her side. >_>

With Great Snark Comes Great Irreplaceability.
I’m still trying to figure what wizard of oz persona Jonah is.
Think of him as Toto. ^_~
Hmmm… I bet that Jonah and Nera are the Wise Donkey and the Foolish Owl, respectively.
Mayor of Munchkin Land?

To be fair, 7 minutes is more than the expected lifespan of Skin Horse as well.
