Hmmm! Looks like Panoptica *can* turn off her telepathy when she wants to. Otherwise she’d be getting what Jonah can do and can’t do directly from his mind. @_@
Kate’s powers have only ever been shown in this “go into an imaginary room and talk with people” way. If she had had the ability to see what people thought about things, she might have been able to handle her conversations with Nick a bit better.
What? I thought that was exactly how it worked? Every time he dies, he is reset to that point in time, and has to go through it all until he figures out how to avoid his latest death.
No, he’s just had a bunch of memories from alternate universes shoved into his head. A lot of those memories were from alternate Jonahs who got similar memory dumps and then died, so at first he *thought* he had a save point, but he’s actually just able to see similar parallel universes…
Yeah. We don’t know if he still has a save point or not (and it was never time travel) but he has a somewhat separate (and inconsistent) ability to see into parallel universes.
As far as we know he hasn’t died since breaking out of Anasigma.
Apparently he didn’t return the application by the deadline. Or maybe he couldn’t find a notary to authorize his signature, so he may not have returned the application at all. We kinda got left hanging on how that turned out… probably intentionally.
The way the story was left open suggested that Jonah may have called Nick, who may have connected him with Unity, since she was a Notary Public, and his options for finding a Notary on a Saturday afternoon were pretty limited.
Granted, Nick would have had to fly Unity out to him, and he never seems too thrilled whenever he has to help Jonah, but for a sweary helicopter, he’s actually a really nice guy.
As for now, they’ve obviously “met”, since Unity was aboard Nick when he rescued Jonah & Nera, but as for actually being properly introduced, who can say. Although, in all their research, and with his precog abilities, he undoubtedly knows who she is, including how she’s related to both Skin Horse and A-Sig and probably Narbonics Labs.
Telepathy is mind-to-mind, no matter if the rest of your chassis is meat or metal. So it is possible that Jonah is using Panoptica’s “dream-office” for a brief interview. As for why she isn’t fighting the sea-monster, I get the feeling that Panoptica is more a mission control for AG-1, rather than an active field agent. Plus depending on how sapient it is, her skill-set might not be of much use.
So, sort of off-topic to today’s comic — how long has there been an ongoing story in the link headers of each strip? Just asking to see how far back in the archives I need to dive.
DonRCamp: That’s particularly as some of the earlier comics (the whole of Brave Little Toasters, for example) don’t have words in the URLs, but only numbers. The image names still contain words from the story, though.
And there have been occasions when the image names were only numbers, but the URLs had the words.
As for the original question of “how long” — Shaenon started doing it roughly 3 years into the original comic Narbonic (that story ran through the end of Narbonic), and with Skin Horse, the new story started with the very first strip.
Since Narbonic, the previous comic in this continuity.
IIRC it started when people noticed that future strips were already uploaded and could be accessed by guessing their URL. It was easy to guess them when they were just numbers so telling a story was the solution.

Or maybe she only “sort of” has telepathic abilities. Like they come and go, so she can only use them when she feels them.

perhaps they’re in the imaginary room right now?
The “SORT OF” Superhero League!
I would love to read that comic
I submit: Mystery Men
Oh thank god he’s not dying each time I was worried he was having to remember how to repeat years over and over

As far as we know, he last died during “Choose.” Since then, he’s been having visions, as shown at the end of said story arc.

Technically he’s never died before. Not in this timeline, anyway.
I thought they already tried to recruit him once?

Remind me, did Jonah know Unity at that point? Does he now?

Silver Eye probably left his application in a mailbox and labeled it late when they finally took it out.
Oh, come on, Panoptica! *Everyone* knows precognition is either unpredictable, or too vague to be useful.
Yeah, but it still could pay off betting on the ponies at the track. Could maybe cover the 401K on the expendables …. *cough*…. employees.
“I predict, that this race will be won by…. a horse!“
Or short temporal range.
Next was such a good movie
So was the edge of tomorrow ( A.k.a. “live die repeat” A.k.a. ” all you need is kill”)
If they’re still on the HMS Habakkuk—the decor suggests it—why isn’t Panoptica (if I remember the name right) out there fighting Mr. Cryptid?
If Nick’s chat with Panoptica is any indicator (and I am remembering it correctly), Panoptica usually conducts these chats outside of meatspace.
Yeah, but that’s with Nick, and Jonah Yu isn’t exactly wired up the same way.

It also depends on whether or not it matters how sapient the creature is

There’s a better way. One of the faithful has been collecting the url words and compiling the story into a single page.

And today’s installment is about metallic figure skaters, I think.
Also…today is National Bundt Day, and Panoptica didn’t bring any bundt.
