My guess is that Nick has been contacted by Baron Mistycorn. He’s a robot, so he could well have a built-in comms device of some kind. It would have to have been retrofitted rather recently to be more sophisticated than a two-way radio. But then even a two-way radio would be capable of contacting Nick if they’re close enough.
