Now would be a really bad time for a caffeine crash.
But really, I was just answering her question. Peirson’s a Mad genius. Questioning others’ ideas is what they do. Sure, they occasionally actually invent things, but mostly they just try to convince others that their ideas are better. And her question itself just proves my point (and to be fair, her idea of running and shooting actually was better in this case).
Hmmm, as awesome as a lathe is, it seems a bit oddly specific – it’s not really a general purpose tool after all; back in the day the A-team seems to have preferred a welder (which is) in similar situations, although I could see myself going for a plasma cutter too if there is one around (no, oxy torch is not what I had in mind with “welder”). Anyway, if one must really really compromise, perhaps… a wrench?
In the hands of a skilled machinist a lathe is downright magical. Especially since almost all our other machine tools can be built with one, and as such it is a cornerstone of the entire machine tool industry. FYI another cornerstone is/are the hyper-accurate Johansson gauge blocks.
A welder is not a general purpose tool either. An oxy-acetylene torch (which was possibly the most-used item on The A-Team) is far more versatile.
But depending on what exactly Peirson was planning, a lathe may be just what he needed. After all, there really isn’t any other tool that can do what a lathe can. Besides, it’s quite possible that he didn’t want the lathe as part of the manufacturing process, but as part of the finished product.
Well, there is an outside chance that Pierson’s idea would have worked if the Thing collective hadn’t been lurking in the sewers already. Timing, after all, is everything.
Eris, what part of “Mad” do you not understand?
As I recall, Eris claimed to be a biology based Mad so maybe she can now show us her L33t Mad biology skilz! ^_~

The correct response is “Young lady, you fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science.”
But then who actually does grasp the principles of Mad science? Surely not the Mads themselves.
Nit: “more cunning that” should be “more cunning than”
Interesting… my brain glossed right over it and read it the way it should be.
At least Tip has his collar on.
Same here.
But I find the confusion of “then” with “that” much more annoying.
Did you mean “then” and “than”?
Peirson certainly has the baiting part of his traps down pat!
You could say he’s mastered it.
I’ll show myself out.
… so, you’re suggesting he’s about to get rubbed out?
I’d say “Guard that with your lives,” but that probably will be only a few minutes of guarding…
My hope, since Tip isn’t shown, is that he escaped and only these two nitwits are left hanging around.

Maybe a Galaxy Quest reference. Or whatever Galaxy Quest was referencing.

This, yes. I have not just a lathe, but a whole machine shop. Three solid hours available though? Much harder to find.

And given that Peirson is a Mad, he may be able to make a lathe do things quite outside the manufacturer’s expectations.
Well, he did have great success with the Eyeball Razor Chimps…
