I don’t get the exploding brains bit, at first I thought it was Nick saying that. Also I went back to an update once and didn’t get at all the joke that I said Sweetheart made that I said works on two levels, but all will be forgiven if director English makes a return.
I can’t tell if Tip if being sarcastic in the last panel or if he genuinely misses their nonsense. Or maybe it just says something about how they’re still preferable to deal with than the mad scientists working for Anasigma.
Nah it’s probably sarcasm.
There’s no reason it can’t be both sarcasm and longing. You have to take into account the mutual bonding under rather trying circumstances.
Comrades can get that way.
Possibly you’re thinking of “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)”, recorded by Garth Brooks in 1993 and written by Brooks, Kent Blazy, and Kim Williams.
Regrettably, neither my body nor my brain has the energy to write a complete filk tonight, although this would be a really fun one to try. But here’s a refrain. If anyone wants to try some verses, go right ahead.

Nick: “I ain’t going if his brains blow up.”
Unity: “I’ll go! I’ll go!”
Sweetheart: “No exploding brains, Unity.”
Unity: “Aw.”

Sweetheart: “No exploding brains Unity, they’re hell on your liver, and livers are a pain to replace”
Unity: “But baaaabe!”
Sweetheart: “No buts! You’re the one that always complains about how working around an opened ribcage tickles something fierce.”
