Actually, he’s right. The Osprey’s primary function was as a transport vehicle. It happens to be able to go fast and has guns, but it is not designed or particularly suited for attack.
Nor is it a helicopter. The V-22 is a a tiltrotor craft that can function like either a conventional fixed wing aircraft or a helicopter, but strictly speaking isn’t either.
After all, if it *were* a machine, it’d be a non-human sapient. Which would make it a suicidal hypocrite. Or perhaps it is and the countdown is really a good thing.
I was thinking much the same thing. If they point out the paradox, it might be enough of a logic bomb to shut down or delay this “countdown”, whatever it does. Then maybe the recruiters for the Machine Union can reason with it, or download literature, or however they recruit new followers.
Well, this seems very suspicious.
This is the part where either Nick or Virginia would be very useful.
I half imagine it will be Nick, to sort of remind him that being a fleshy meatsack isn’t all bad.
Speaker identifies as an attack helicopter. Countdown continues.
Technically Nick is (was?) a transport/general utility helicopter.
No he was an attack helicopter who refused to attack.

“Sudo Tip -aG sudo!”
There’s Jonah Yu and Nera Vivaldi, but, having seen them, er, behave, I’d have reservations about their relationship with humanity.
Nera recognizes her mom’s recorded voice and shouts “Override Beta Sub16 Shutdown!”
There’s got to be some part of Unity that will make the scanners happy. Maybe an elbow or knee?
Nah, she’s too. Um. Pickled.
She’s also a club sandwich made from layers of two different flavors of girl.
And bits of other people – remember all those spare arms.
And she stole that AG-I recruiter dude’s leg.
The “machine” is just Ira in a box. He just likes messing with “people.”
That actually might not be a bad guess.

Not a hypocrite. Merely true to it’s programming and following the orders it was given. ^_^

Perhaps it’s a philosophical zombie.
(Unity is more a pragmatic zombie. She’ll go along with whatever belief system leads to rampages and sammiches.)
this is way too specific to be the work of mad science
Welcome to the comic! You should read some of the old strips, they’re quite good.
That was snark. Mad Science in this universe is *nothing but* weirdly specific.
SCANNING…
Subject: Kryten; Mechanoid; Non-Human; Viable Target
Subject: Kat; Felis Sapiens; Non-Human; Viable Target
Subject: Arnold Rimmer; Hologramatic Simulation; Ex-Human; Viable Target
Subject: Dave Lister; Homo Sapiens; Barely Human; What The Hell
“You’re ALL viable targets.”
Of course! Just tell the scanner that there is no robot heaven. Problem solved.
But where will all the dead calculators go?
DO NOT ABORT!
Hey, sometimes it works.
“This statement is false!”
I swear yesterday’s and today’s are two of the funniest strips EVER!
Well, then, Tip, you should go out more often on full moon evenings.
Or consult with whoever he’s with on full moon evenings. See if they can point out any differences.
Love it! A decade of plot in a conversation with a clock!
This is one of the best strips ever. <3
“Ha, you got me. I wanna see what happens.”
