Likewise–especially since this time it’s not entirely self-deprecatory. Quite apart from what this means for her and Nick, it feels like a big step forward for Ginny in and of herself.
Looking forward for Sweetheart chastising them both for fraternizing in office hour.
And get reminded they are rogue agent now so office hour lost its meaning.
Let’s logic this one out.
If Unity had schlorped Alt-Ginny’s brains out, she would have been super-smart from eatin’ them…smart enough to outmaneuver Trinity instead of ending up going “head-to-head”.
Since the fight turned out even, we may safely assume that Alt-Ginny got away with her skull in intact. Her hairdo may be a Mohawk now…
Beautiful strip, but imo have to disagree with you there, Ginny. The face of all your sins is split by stitching…
Also, there’s more than just one easy joke here about Nick’s face and Virginia’s sinning, but I’m not qualified to write them beyond the obvious sexual innuendoes.
“HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.”- said by Death, from Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. Sorry for the all-caps, but that is seriously how he talks.
Hey, it’s possible that someone reading BarGamer’s comment is one of the lucky Ten Thousand, and has yet to read *any* Pratchett yet. (reference: https://xkcd.com/1053/ ). (Seriously, if you haven’t, give it a try — although many suggest not starting with the very first Discworld books.)
I think my first DW was Guards! Guards!, which is an excellent place to begin. You get Vimes, Carrot, the Night Watch – all sorts of brilliant stuff going on.
Last year I completed a re-read of all of DW except for the Tiffany Aching series, I’m holding back on that for later.
Oh man, I *envy* you– and at the same time, I wouldn’t trade the experiences of having read, reread and re-REread (not to mention audiobooks) TPratchett’s works for anything. But you… You’ve got a whole freaking world out there to discover any time you feel like doing so. “Guards! Guards!” is a good place to start, but there are tons of other good starting points too– I just have a soft spot for the Ankh-Morpork watchmen.
ACTUALLY, I’m rather glad I started with “The Color of Magic.” Rincewind was an excellent introduction to the setting and characters. “Wyrd Sisters” is also an excellent book to start with. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are delish. “Wee Free Men” and the Tiffany Aching books are also up there for good introductions to the world.
Same as Lady E, I can also lightly recommend starting with the first book. It’s true, it’s not as polished as everything from Mort (Book 4?) onwards, but it sets a lot of the tropes, tone, and running jokes of the series. I’m also a bit of an outlier in that I read every single Discworld book in publishing order; I loved the experience, but it’s probably not for everyone.
“Pyramids” was my intro to the Discworld series, borrowed from a friend. It actually makes a pretty good point of entry as it’s largely outside the continuity of the main series. Hooked and addicted immediately…
Just don’t forget that he has other series and stand-alone works that are equally wonderful. You really can’t go wromg with any of the choices.
I’m not sure whether it’s accurate to say I’ve read Pratchett or not. A few weeks ago I definitively hadn’t. Then I finally read Good Omens–but since that was a collaboration with Neil Gaiman, I don’t have a sense of how to sort out the authors’ respective influences on the book. I still have not read anything by Pratchett and only Pratchett.
Tomorrow’s Segment: Going South
Panel 1: Comfy seat proving comfy
Panel 2: Decorum prevails with a literal curtain fall reading “..and then”
Panel 3: Exterior shot of Osprey being blown to smithereens by Anasigma missle
Panel 4: Mr. Green watching explosion from interior POV, declaring “If I can’t have you, no one will.” (you didn’t think he’d recommission the Comfy Seats without his private surveillance tattletales, did you?)
Segue into foreshadowing offered by Shadowmehr yesterday of Tip’s vision…
I was actually thinking about cuddling, afterglow, making sure they were not flying into a mountain, that sort of thing. Although your scenario would fit the kind of mood whiplash that has occurred in this strip.
Skin horse fell off my radar a couple of years ago. Old pc had melted and I missed adding it to my favourites on the new one. Something reminded me of it recently so I decided to reread Narbonic and SH (and I don’t regret a second of that). I finally catch up with this strip. And I’ve been grinning for 10 minutes.
Catching up on this after falling behind for three and a half years, and I just gotta say that these two strips are so God-damned sweet I can’t even. Bravo, *bravo.*
Beautiful!
Poetry!
Looking forward to the celebratory party the rest of the gang will throw when they return.
I was just thinking that…
Very poignant moment from Ginny here. I like.
Indeed. I’m also enjoying this rare glimpse inside Virginia’s head.
Likewise–especially since this time it’s not entirely self-deprecatory. Quite apart from what this means for her and Nick, it feels like a big step forward for Ginny in and of herself.
Looking forward for Sweetheart chastising them both for fraternizing in office hour.

I’m sure she’ll be fine, as long as she doesn’t have to hear it. Granted, they may have to fill out some paperwork next time Nick has to refuel…
She’s dating Unity now, her anti-office-fraternizing ways are over.
Now, *gossiping* about this on the other hand…
Okay, this isn’t enough of a distraction now, Shaenon could you please eiither confirm or deny alt Virginia’s death please?
It seems that that was just Sally Forth, trying out a career change.
You win the internets for that.
I don’t get it.
Logically, Unity must have been reunited with her body before the final face-off with Trinity. So perhaps she didn’t have time to schlorp any brains?
Let’s logic this one out.

I can buy that.
Sha-Zam!
Thank you Shaenon & Jeff!

Ah. Fly me to the…..
Fly me to Cancun, and let me sail above the cars
Let me see what spring is like from dropship avatars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, darling kiss me
Fill my heart with parts and let me spin forevermore
You are all I long for, all I win, and my top score
In other words, I’m in luck
In other words, girl let’s *FLY*
Okay, no fair, y’all making me cry and everything. But I guess I can handle it just this once.
Thank you.
This moment. It not only brought a tear to my eye, but defines “Skin Horse”. For in this moment they have become Real…
Applause!
Nice counterpoint!
[I might be having an anomic aphasia moment.]

Are you telling me there’s platonic innuendoes to be had, here?
Can we please save the talk of things “falling away” until the aircraft/pilot isn’t distracted?
“HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.”- said by Death, from Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. Sorry for the all-caps, but that is seriously how he talks.
…I believe that this is a reasonable place to assume that the readership has a certain knowledge of Pratchett. 🙂
Also: good quote choice.

“many suggest not starting with the very first Discworld books.”
Indeed. “Strata” is a bit of an outlier in the Discworld canon…
Silly Hannibal’s Lectern.
There is no “first” Discworld book!
I think my first DW was Guards! Guards!, which is an excellent place to begin. You get Vimes, Carrot, the Night Watch – all sorts of brilliant stuff going on.

Yes, strange as it may seem, I am one of those 10,000.

I would start with “Mort”. Early in the series, and establishes the tone for the rest of the books.

My first TP book was Thief of time, I’ve read/,listened to it a dozen times at least. So I’d start there
“Pyramids” was my intro to the Discworld series, borrowed from a friend. It actually makes a pretty good point of entry as it’s largely outside the continuity of the main series. Hooked and addicted immediately…

As is said, behind every great man there is a woman, (Just make sure his wife doesn’t find out.)
Yeah, that’s because he’s trying to get away from the woman who is accusing him of rape
im not crying your crying
Rather than fly, she should have said ‘He makes me soar!’ in the last panel
Give ’em time; they’ll get there.
Looks like they’ve got most of their clothes off. That’s a good sign.
Wow.
Hamlet: “Soft you now! The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons. Be all my sins remember’d.”
Or… we find forgiveness in each others’ eyes… and arms… and brain-controlled Ospreys.
God damn you Shaenon and Jeff, you made me cry.
I think you typed “damn” when you really meant “bless”…

This strip is even better than any of the ones with Helen and Dave. and the ones from Narbonic make me tear up thinking about them years later.
Beautiful <3
I'm not crying, that's just helicopter-dust in my eyes!
OMG… I… wow.
I AM crying, darn it. That was a surprise that shouldn’t have been considering y’all been twanging my heartstrings since Narbonic, but this…
Skin horse fell off my radar a couple of years ago. Old pc had melted and I missed adding it to my favourites on the new one. Awesome work Shaenon. Thank you
Beauty – truth – pure love – all in a !@#$%^& comic strip. Thank you!
My heartfelt thanks as well, Jeff & Shaenon, for sharing your universe with us!
(deep bow of respect)
That was an absolutely beautiful moment.
I’m so glad I got to re-experience this.
Catching up on this after falling behind for three and a half years, and I just gotta say that these two strips are so God-damned sweet I can’t even. Bravo, *bravo.*
